I am back and need advice on paint colors for interior

Hi Houzzers. Would love to get some ideas/suggestions for a spec home. We moved from Naples FL to the Villages. Let me give you some of the specifics. The lvp flooring throughout the house is a white, gray, and taupe. We just had a cabinet maker put Reed green shelving in the laundry room. The little island in the kitchen is a darker gray green. Our place in Naples had gray walls and also our house in PA. So I am all grayed out and looking for other colors. Would consider a white, taupe, or green as an accent wall color. The furniture will eventually be replaced. The house is very open. Any suggestions, renderings, and advice would be greatly appreciated, TIA

Two great options depending on the direction you'd like to go.

SW Alabaster for the north facing rooms to keep them fresh, and SW Reserved White if you'd like a hint of green... Both a fresh whites with just a hint of color, great for sunny Florida.

Congratulations on the move... start fresh (I agree to move on from gray) Do you need an accent wall color? Just a fresh overall color.

The OP wrote "The furniture will eventually be replaced". If you'll be replacing the gray/beige/taupe furniture in a year or two, you could wait to paint with a color that coordinates well with the new upholstered pieces and new rug because it is much easier to find paint colors that go well with furniture than vice versa.

In the meantime, try scooping up all the pillows, picking more lively new pillow covers for two, and putting the rest away for a few months.

If you do want to paint now, look at pale sky blue and pale green (celadon or sage) colors. You can buy half a dozen kitchen towels in a range of colors to bring home and see how you like the colors.

Texture really warms up a space, think rugs, bamboo window shades, nubby pillows, rattan, live plants etc - congrats on your new place!

Groveraxle…where are you? Need your help again, you did a fantastic job at our PA house.

The taupe flooring will drive your choice of wall color. Since you want to move away from gray I would suggest looking at some warmer tones. One of my favorites that is just muted enough and still reads warm is SW Natural Linen.

I love many of the warmer, creamier wall colors, but the one color that really clashes with taupe is yellow beige - any beige that you choose has to have more orange in the base to work with taupe.

Natural linen looks wonderful with greens and blue greens. It is light enough to feel fresh and has enough meat on it's bones to not get muddy or gray in lower light.

Here is a Kylie M video on Natural Linen and similar colors.

I would start with a sample of Natural Linen, then let us know if it is too light, too dark, too gray, too beige next to your floors and in your light. We can help guide you toward the perfect color, but without being in the space and seeing how the colors coordinate with your floors we need your input.

Thank you so much for the suggestions. Jennifer Hogan…I will look into Natural Linen. I still am looking to use a green also, looking for a gray/green.

Here are some pics from ChatGPT on green, but was not feeling the color.

Here are some pics from ChatGPT on green, but was not feeling the color. The below picture shows the color Reed green, put in by our cabinet maker. Still waiting after 3 months on our speed queen washer.

Hang your art then see if you NEED an accent wall, I do not think so. I never like mismatched sofas in a space and if new furniture is the plan why not wait to paint until you get the new stuff. The green is pretty but noconnection to anything in the DR or LR so why in the kitchen, in fact why the island at all in that kitchen with the raised bar that is so white.

Unless you use a very neutral color (like SW Alabaster), I'd wait until you know what your furniture will look like. I wouldn't want to have newly painted walls (especially open concept = large paint project) and then find accent chairs that I love and/or a sofa (or two) that doesn't work with the new wall paint.

I paticularly like the SW blue greens sea salt, comfort gray, oyster bay, and th similar BM colors Healing aloe, quiet moments, beach glass.

Thx for paint color ideas….Now, for furniture suggestions. Not sure where to order and what color & styles. I like more of a modern look. I do not want @ny sectional. The problem is it is one big room, which includes dining table. Having these 2 couches, looks very crowded.

Can you tell us more about how you live in this space. How many people sit in the living and dining area on a daily basis, how often you entertain, how many people you generally entertain, how often you entertain larger gatherings.

When you do sit in the living area do you prefer a chair, a recliner or sofa? Do you like to lay down on the sofa in the evenings or sit upright?

Do you eat meals at the table or do you eat at the counter or on a tray in the living room?

You get the idea. . .

If we understand how you use the space we can better suggest the appropriate seating options.

Hi…there is only 2 people living in the house. We do like to entertain as much as possible. (6-8 people). We found with just the dining table for 6 people, we always had to sit at the counter, so we were thinking of getting a table for 8. It is just 1 big room, so the dining area is included in the great room. Some people have put a dining table to the right of the kitchen, but I do not think there is enough room. My hubby really likes the taupe couch, as it is large enough for him and comfy. The leather couch is okay, but I just feel having 2 couches can overpower the room. As you can see, pictures have not gone up as I am not sure how many I will keep. Our house in Naples had brushed nickel & chrome. The new house has finishing in brushed gold.

These were the paint colors that were recommended by Sherwin Williams. Not sure if we will have a feature wall built where the tv is or just order some besta cabinets from ikea. I know that I am all over with trying to figure out how to decorate.

This is a look that I like with nice clean lines. I will enclose pics of the empty house.

Also some ideas on a feature wall..

It is hard to see the actual color of the "Taupe" sofa. Is it similar to the darker color on the chairs?

I would want to pick the neutral color based on both that sofa and the flooring. The colors that SW picked are popular colors, but all three have green undertones where taupe has pink/purple undertones.

Based on the photo and computer I am loving the Incredible White with your chair.

None of these work for me.

Of course, the only place it needs to work is in your home with your lighting and your furniture, but I would get several samplize samples and look at them next to the furniture that is staying and next to the flooring that is staying.

Once you nail down the wall color we can pick the best accent color. Acacia Haze and similar blue greens are beautiful with taupe. Clary Sage is too yellow green with taupe.

We just used Canvas Tan by Sherwin Williams in our new house in Northern AZ. I am not sure how it would look with your flooring but maybe worth a look.

These are with light warm green walls. I think the color you tried was too dark. I would also suggest moving the sofas to be perpendicular since they’re not matching. Seeing the back of the chairs is more friendly as you walk into the room.

What color of green did you use Emily? The blue green does not look good. I do like your furniture placement much better.

SW 6421 Celery. I have SW shagreen in my family room and have absolutely loved it for my northeast facing room. You might even have Sherwin Williams lighten Celery a bit and see how you like that. Painting a sample of the colors you like is a good way to see how the color will change at different times of the day.
