In ground modern pool/ yard. Can’t find a liner I love! Need Help!

I have a 20 by 40 in ground pool being built w sun shelf and can not decide on a liner !
Modern yard w grey Tech-Bloc large pavers.
I know I don’t like the normal blue most pools have. Leaning towards a aqua/grey color for the water and all the pic w that tone seem to be grey or dark grey liners - Any have any suggestions or ideas that have this look - Here is an example of what I am leaning towards

Here's another photo--notice the first step is the grayest:

They are both very dark and almost plain, so I think either one will give you a nice deep muted grayish blue.

Check out the water color and bottom visibility of a pool of similar depth to yours when filled before deciding. The deep water colors look great but too dark can be a safety hazard with younger kids or guests.

I have personally fished out kids that have slipped below a dark pool surface when their parents didn't notice them drowning (it only takes a minute or two of looking away to miss it). I went with a lighter gray for my gunite pool for this reason where I can clearly see the pool bottom when filled on an overcast day

Now that is terrifying, @Design Fan! I agree that water too dark to see the bottom is not a good idea. Even if you don't have children, who knows what could be on the bottom?? I once found a dead squirrel in my pool.

We built in FL, so there was no way I was doing anything but a light colored pool ... live alligators can end up in pools here!

My pool is gunite, but this is how the sample and finished pool look like.

The camera makes it brighter than it is in person. Not going to miss any critters that might end up in the pool!

Patricia as I showed in my previous post a gray liner does NOT make the water gray. Once the pool is filled, the water is a muted blue.

Agree that the color of the liner/gunite does not color the water the same color or even a close color. Also the depth of the pool, sun/shade and nearby landscape material impacts the water color. Seeing other pools can really help when choosing the pool liner/gunite. The pool company can usually advise you too.

The dark pool issues (kids, alligators!) never occurred to me until I saw the pitfall in person.

The darker the gunite, the harder it will be to see algae and dirt that have to be brushed and vacuumed to keep the pool clean. I'd only use white.

The OP is asking about vinyl, not gunite.

Unless vinyl liners are immune from algae and dirt, it doesn't matter.

I had a white vinyl-lined pool once and hated it. It showed every speck of dirt. After that I switched to the medium gray mottled patterns for both my pools. Much better and prettier water color. I've not had terrible algae problems, maybe that is because I have the pool chemicals professionally done by my pool company. The biggest problem we have here on Long Island are phosphates in the water, compounds that turn the water green (not algae). The pool company uses a product called "Phosfree" to counteract the problem.

That's a very interesting article on algae-resistant vinyl liners, and I'd definitely consider one the next time I have to replace the liner. Just wondering if a salt-water filtration system is better at counteracting algae than chlorine? Many of my friends have switched to salt and recommend it highly. But until my filter goes, I'm sticking with chlorine.

What I'd really like to have is one of those pebble type stone pool surfaces. They look so pretty, but again, more expensive than vinyl, so that's probably not going to happen any time soon either!

That's the point: Not being able to see the dirt and algae doesn't make it go away.

Maybe the OP will maintain the pool himself.

A white pool isn't like a white floor in a bathroom. There's no way that you can keep it pristine, so for me white is out. You are free to disagree.

Not sure who is going to maintain Tricia's pool, but that was not her question. I hope we here have helped her make the decision on the pool liner, neither of which were white.
