What color/type counter would go with breccia oniciata marble flooring

I am redoing a very small kitchen in a condo that I own on the beach. The cherry cabinets turned very red and I decided to paint them BM Dove white. I will be replacing the granite that is already there and will not have a full backsplash like it is now. The flooring is a marble and must remain. I am at a loss as to what type of counters I should be looking at. I would have loved to incorporate coastal colors but I am a loss. I am definitely going to purchase a glass mural similar to the one posted below thru etsy. The mural will go above the new stove I am purchasing. I just need help with the counters. Thank you in advance.

I feel like you need a neutral countertop to work with your marble floors. I'd try to find a solid/little movement cream/off white countertop. Maybe a honed cream quartzite with light movement? A honed black granite or soapstone would work also. You could also find a solid quartz that would coordinate with your floors.

I think that I'd determine the countertop that works with the floors before selecting the exact paint color for the cabinets - there are many paint colors = much easier to select.

Adding the glass art behind the cooktop adds an additional level of difficulty - if you selected a glass mural with a sand color that works with a honed cream quartzite, that might be pretty.

If you can find a slab of Taj Mahal that looks like the countertop below, that may work:

Do you rent the unit out? If you do, I would definitely not paint the cabinets. Just get a plain quartz or corian counter in an off-white or beige that goes with the floors.

I do not rent the condo out. I purchased it about 6 years ago from a family member and I always hated the color of the cabinets and the granite that went up all the walls. I was also thinking about a wood toned countertop.

White Corian. Paint the backspash wall after you remove the tile and leave the cabinets wood.

BM White Dove? I'd choose a white countertop and backsplash to help lighten up the space.

A simple plain white quartz. The floor is stunning!

Change out the ceiling fan with a great light fixture and change the hardware to polished brass .

Thanks for the suggestion. The painting of the cherry cabinets has begun. It already looks better than before. I like the idea of polished brass hardware and removal of the fan is a consideration. I will look into white quartz but I was also considering a wood type counter. What do you think ?

a wood countertop is too casual for the floor.

White and bright to show off the floor and your new mural piece. Paint the ceiling and walls and trims in the kitchen the same BM White Dove of the cabinets, just in an egg shell finish.

Edit the space and keep the countertops clean.

Use weathered wood/driftwood in the living room if you need a beach vibe.

    ... here's a pretty wave style pull

Gotcha! I just wanted wood counters in one of my houses. Just renovated my lakehouse from scratch and went with cambria quartzite. I do like the idea of driftwood stains for the living room. Thanks for the suggestions.

I’m certainly not a ”color ” expert but I would be careful to not go too white for the counters, it might make your cabinets lean more yellowish instead of the neutral white that I assume you’re going for. Your floors look very expensive (to me ). Maybe wait until your cabinets are finished & then select a countertop. Looks like recessed lighting & undercabinet ( if there isn’t ) lighting would be nice in there. Good luck!

This inspiration photo is way over done...it is the color of the counters with the white cabs, that I am suggesting would work with the floors.

make sure you get a sample door painted with Dove White FIRST, and hold it against the flooring in your own light. simple enough to have done w/o getting everything painted and then finding out it doesn't work.

who is painting the cabs and what is their exact method? (sanding, priming, sanding again, and spraying offsite??)

as for the countertops, take that sample door with you to a stone yard and look at quartz or granite.

I think the BM Sea Salt would be a great color w/your floors. I'd do Simply White. White Dove , to me, looks dingy.

why not get a sample painted w/both shades and see which looks better in your lighting?

I think these colors and textures, tile, accents, would play well w/your tile and coastal theme.

a simple zellige tile or cloe tile backsplash

would be more of a boho type look, but:

Hold off on choosing a backsplash tile (unless you just want a 4" piece up the back?) personally I think a nice glass tile backsplash (no mural) would look far better.

here's a beach kitchen w/Lunada Bay tile. (try other brands too, but this is the look I mean)

they have a beige/linen white tile similar to this that would work w/your floors. think about adding some glass to one of the uppers if you like. simple quartz countertops

this color countertop would look nice w/the white cabs and your tile floor. woven wood window coverings, simple tile splash

    https://casuallycoastal.com/backsplash-ideas-for-your-coastal-kitchen/

this scallop tile would be a nice w/the quartz. Mercury mosaics.

This tile comes in a taupe color that I believe would be a match w/your flooring.

It's a 2x10 carried by IvyHill tile at Home Depot. this color is Hibiscus. (tilebar also has it under a diff name. Newport Tile I believe)

maybe you could do something like this behind the stove

I'd also do cabinet pulls, not knobs. you have taller doors up top and the handle syle would look better. have them drill the holes before painting. these are all avail on amazon and are not expensive. get a few samples ahead of time so you can decide.

Lastly, make more storage by bringing in a larger console against that wall. something in a lighter wood to match the floors. white oak, or something similar. maybe a coffee station or beverage bar? some open shelves?

    examples

(I think you know that ceiling fan needs to go? if you can bring in some recessed lights, great. otherwise, do a nice 4 light flush mount fixture w/LED bulbs at 4000K)

Just an example of more of a coastal look.

If you painted it w/the Sea Salt color and did white oak shelving, It would really dress up that entire wall. bring in colorful coastal art like this pelican

if you can add some sconce lighting over the shelves, great!

I think this fluted style or even the rattan style doors would look great in a coastal kitchen

White is also an option w/a butcher block top. match the wood shelves to it

Heck, you could look for an antique buffet or console, paint it, and make your own:

BM Wrought Iron is a complimentary color to Sea Salt. this would look nice w/the floor tile too

I really like the neutrals and textures w/this one. would look great w/your floor

You can find these buffets from the 40's all over FB marketplace or craigslist. chalk paint it for an easy DIY, (or have your cabinet guy spray it) leave the top as is or top it w/the same countertop as the rest of the kitchen

or even a vintage bamboo style

If I was walking into this space and asked to redo it this is what I would do

    1. have a finish carpenter come in and use moulding to bring the cabinets to the ceiling with trim and crown

    2 paint the cabinets

3 use polised nickel hardware on the cabinets

5 replace the counters with a light quartz with a light veining that has both warmth and coolness to it.

4 i would tile the backsplash completely. A soft blue. The kitchen is too small for a feature and it will just make it look choppy. There is nothing to highlight, the microwave and range are not special so why add a feature mural there to highlight them? you don't want to focus on them and adding a feature there will do exactly that.

5 replace the ceiling fan with a fandelier if a fan is needed or a flush mount light

6 replace the free standing cabinet with either a rattan cabinet or a cute rattan barcart

7 coastal art this will become your feature piece now.

8 for more interest consider wallpapering the wall there.

10 add a striped rug in blue and natural

All I can think about is how many times a day I will be cleaning the mural. Why not hang that in the space just where steam and grease happen all the time . The lighting needs an up grade , a fan is never a goodidea in a kitchen . As for counter probably the best is one color corian in a color from the marble that will aslo work with the cabinet color which should be decided after you choose the counter BTW. The only mat I would add would be aone color , again from the marble, anti fatigue mat

Thank you for your suggestions. I am leaning toward corian due to the color choices. I agree with the lighting completely. I can’t wait to get rid of that fan.

    One more idea….

That looks nice too. I ordered my appliances yesterday and chose a neutral corian for my counters. I’m just about finished with the painting of the cabinets and what an improvement already. I like the backsplash. Thanks.
