Start with a trash barrel. Any color will work with what you have going on. I am partial to blue as it really works with the art.

You need more organization. Nothing you do is going to look better until you tackle the clutter. It's really hard to know if your problem is lack of storage space or just needing to throw out/donate stuff. You can't work at your desk.

I'll note that you have some Western-themed decor (dream catcher, horse painting) and some butterfly/heart themed decor. They fight in color and theme.
