Would you rather walk past the laundry to get to the powder room? Due to a leak we are gutting the powder /laundry room at my cabin in the mountains. I used to live there full time but have moved into the guest house and I rent this out or we use it for family vacations. So this is the current layout, currently there is no door between the laundry and powder, just a cased opening. I will be adding a door between regardless of which option I choose.

My builder says we can move the fixtures around as long as we keep the plumbing all along the same wall and it should not change costs significantly. So I could move the powder to the back portion, giving the powder the window. I would make the laundry a stacked unit and put in a broom closet next to it. I can put a cased opening or a door at the hallway.

Since this is a rental and vacation property, I'd give the window to the powder room if possible. Natural light and ventilation are valuable in a bathroom.

I'll dissent. I pee more often than I do laundry, so I'd rather go directly into the powder.. I've always disliked the bathroom in the laundry. I've also never had a window in a powder room so there's that. In the houses I have lived in - they were always just located "centrally' resulting in no windows. It's also been where I have been bolder with decor, and made them a little more moody / darker.

OTOH - maybe if it was laid out the way the majority of folks here want it - I'd do MORE laundry!

Can the laundry have bypass doors or panels a la Ikea on the machine side, to make it seem like a passageway instead a washing machine?

Couple tweaks, flip the Powder, Laundry cabinet center with pivot-slide W/D doors. Optional pocket door to close off the Laundry Hallway.
