A custom Roman shade works best when the fabric, lining, mount style, and measurements are decided together.

First, decide the room goal. Daytime softness, privacy, glare control, and sleep support all point to different linings. Light-filtering fabric is not the same as room-darkening or blackout lining.

Second, choose inside or outside mount. Inside mount looks cleaner but requires frame depth and precise measurements. Outside mount can reduce light gaps and hide uneven trim, but it needs enough wall space around the window.

Third, test swatches in real light. Neutral fabrics can shift warm, gray, or yellow beside the wall and window. The lining can also change how heavy the shade feels.
