Latest mockups. Both raise the bamboo shade into a stationary valance position. Both have a simple cafe curtain. Both use West Elm's Beau medicine cabinet (close up posted above; mimics bamboo a bit).

One version with the Jungle rug, one with Gemma. I think ChatGPT made the jungle rug too big (both rugs are 5x7) Also IDK why ChatGPT isn't centering the cabs vertically, or the Gemma rug.

I love the last one, and also the 2nd one..... I think I like the painted white medicine casbinet or the chrome one ( I love chrome)... Also, you found my bath rugsp which might work for you as well. From anthro-norse bath mat. IRL it's a very subdued sort of faded looking pretty.

@Sueb20, I saw the Greer in my search but Magnolia medicine cabinet reviews are very bad. One person says it is not level, one says the hardware inside bends, and another says the exterior mounting hardware does not work. So that gave me pause, esp since I cannot simply march into say, a West Elm, to return it. But I love the unusual shape and I think the size is a tad better.

A few Anthro rugs. all 5x8

I recently purchased those café curtains for my primary bath (no valance though) and am very pleased, love the look and I think it works well in your space, too. Not sure about the first two anthro rugs. If you go with the curtains I think they may be too saturated for that softer look although they would stand up to the bamboo if you keep that. Not crazy about the last rug. That's a shame about the Greer reviews - it would be nice look.

I'll get a pic when I'm home - they are pinch pleat in 'off white' but I'd have to dig out the papers to know for sure - could be just called white. Hung with white rings on a white rod - did not want to go with a silver tone like the light fixture and dark bronze or black would be out of place as the only thing dark in the room.

I like your direction. Bamboo valance, light linen cafe curtains and darker framed medicine cabinets. I liked a couple of the rugs in your original group - particularly the last one. I would also like to see the last two in the Anthro group mocked up. And I think a touch of pink would be great :).

For some reason ChatGPT was making the room moodier and darker than it is. I think this is now my working mockup.

I think I am a little tired of stripes, having used Dash and Albert in so many places over the years. They seem to have stripe for every spot!

I did the mock up you suggested. The UO rug has the potential to be fairly awful IRL, and while I really like wood med cabinets here, the Greer are not as roomy as the white ones, and we shall have to see how they look IRL , too.

The one thing I am quite sold on is something I was not looking for --- cafe curtains! I have a Zoom call in the am with the retailer.

Chatgpt is kind of bossy and editorial, lol. I asked for a picture of DH as a train conductor for father’s day and it made him VERY tall! When I asked for the figure to be 6ft (DH’s actual height) Chatty made him even taller 🤷‍♀️ I finally used the picture and photoshopped it myself. ( I had it framed for our gallery wall with a small brass plate that says The Conductor— he’s mad about trains.)

My first choice was going to be the last rug in your first photo. But I like the last striped rug too. First choice - I like the busy pattern and addiitonal colors, and it varies from the sink curtains. The striped rug is youthful and beachy.

If you are going with cafe curtains, which I like better than the visually heavy blinds, I would remove the valance. It serves no purpose.

Cabinet choice would come last, based on rug decision and no valance. Easier to find a favorite with so many choices available.

I also would not match the rugs. Maybe the dressing room and bathroom. As long as they compliment each other, for a more collected look and not one-stop shopping.

Side note/question: I have always loved the look of the D&A striped rugs, but don’t they slide around? They are just cotton mats, sort of, right? Do you use a sticky rug pad under?

No, they don't, if you use the mat they reccommended. They are actually a pretty darn good product, I have used them many times. And psst they aren't supposed to be washable but I was able to wash them in cold (in a laundromat size machine) and hang to dry over a railing outdoors.

But it does. Both aesthetic and functional. Aesthetically, it ties into the floor, the new cabs and the wood dresser, and adds texture. I like the look of bamboo blinds as a stationary valance and have done that in my LR and Sunroom here. Moreover, I think the cafe curtains could look skimpy on their own across a 7.5' expanse.

Functionally, if I use low profile cafe curtain hardware (probably custom to get this expanse, obv w center bracket), the blinds will still work. This window is where the sunrise comes in and it is also the only window with a view of another home. If we need to sleep in, we fully lower the blinds on this window. Some guests want full coverage too (I notice my sister always closes them)

Based on your photos, the dark valance is looking a little bossy but we can't see all that you see.

Hmm, who here is a curtain rod maven?

I have ID'd the cafe curtain style (rod pocket) and fabric (linen blend). I will make them 1.5x for fullness. I had a call w the retailer to confirm msmts. I ordered swatches.

I want exterior mount because I want it all the way across. Cafe rods are usually 1/2" diameter. I'd love unlacquered brass but could do nickel. I need something ~ 86" long if I center it on the molding. Rejuvenation makes a really nice cafe rod but not >60"

@deegw, I think I am pretty set on keeping them for the aesthetic and functional reasons I listed. Like I said, it is a look I have on many of my windows and I am partial to it.

The Anne Selke Gemma rug arrives today. (2x3' to "sample" it) I think she is pretty but I finally put my finger on why I fear it may not work. Initially I am thinking, floral (sink skirt) and stripe - always works. But this it not really exactly a stripe of course and is more rustic/scandy/country. I like to mix styles but not sure on this one

Chatgpt refused to replicate my sink skirts and keep changing the color to a true white and light blue, vs ivory and aqua.. So for my latest rug idea, I just did a crude mockup myself. I ordered it -- in 2x3'.

I think a traditional stripe will definitely work, as long as it doesn't have bright. bright white. Or veer too Candyland. There are lots of options.

However, to me those fall under the category of "cheap and cheerful." I had many of them in our lakehouse years ago, and in the beach house they are in three "kids" rooms, a bathroom, as well as outdoors. So less than excited to put one here. Especially as It occurs to me there is no furniture that goes on this rug, nothing to contrast or accent. It is like a painting on my floor, in a room I am in all the time.

That said, i think I will take @Allison0704 good advice and use a different rug in the MBR sitting area. That is right in front of the french doors to the deck and sometimes get a bit wet or dirty. I will probably do a cheap and chearful jute and cream stripe there

So sad. The colors in the rug you received that so many of us liked were not at all what was represented in the picture. I think @rubyclaire has an interesting idea of using something more muted, but again, seeing a rug in situ is the only way to really tell if it works, methinks.

I think the muted looks nice, but it isn't sending me. I want a rug I like, not just one that works, if that makes sense.

My first priority is more generous medicine cabs (a DH request). To that end I also ordered the West Elm Beau version, because I want to make sure I choose the best one. It has more space than the Magnolia Greer. If only I could see these things in person, arggh

My second priority is the cafe curtains. Waiting on fabric samples and return calls in re hardware.

My third priority in the dressing room area rug, and then the sitting area rug. I ordered a simple striped jute for there, since it gets the foot traffic to and from the deck.

Yesterday, both the Greer and the Beau medicine cabinets arrived. I think both are good choices in that the scale and function is far better than my existing antique ones, and the wood tones I think work with the vintage look better than metal or brilliant white. Both feel shockingly large vs what I had, but most new ones are quite large. I like having the big mirror a lot! I also like the light it adds to the room.

The Greer looked awful in the box, a bit like grey plastic trying to read as cerused oak. It looks nicer on the wall, but, as I feared from the reviews, is poorly made. The Beau is a far, far nicer cabinet. I also like the wood and feel it picks up the color of the bamboo well. It is also has a bit larger mirror, and much larger cabinet (about 50% more interior space).

Greer. Cute but poor quality, wood kinda ugly/cheap looking in person, and less interior space. DH is very much against this one
