Not our front door, but the more-oft-used service/garage door. We have a four-hook keyhook for our keys, leash, and shoehorn. Then a long row of pegs for outerwear, caps, and my purse. Under it all is a row of boot trays for the shoes, The kids carried their backpacks to their rooms.

Our house came with a bootbench built-in, we don’t use it that way. We have a few baskets on top for the plastic bags going back to the store, the gloves in winter/work gloves in summer, and for recycling (we don’t let it accumulate, just a stop,on the way to the bin in the garage.

What else do you have?

Have a spot/place for everything and train everyone in the house to put things away. The training is the hard part.

I'm a neat person and don't like clutter. My DH is more of a "why put it away if I'm going to use it again" person. The training has been ongoing for years! LOL

One of my kids picked up the training and his first young adult apartment is pretty neat and organized.

we used hooks with monogrammed totes - jackets, coats etc got hung, keys were hung - smaller items got stuffed in the tote (also hung) - two baskets below for shoes (we didn’t have a lot of shoes for some reason - maybe bc i had boys).

Train housemates to use the garage access door. It's really the only way. The mess will still be there, but not at the front door.
