Hahaha! Here's what AI had to say about me!!

The search function on Houzz is awful, so I thought maybe I could find an old thread I started, triggered by salonva's search. So I said, well, let's see if google search could work better...looking for a thread I seem to recall about random memes or thoughts for the day. Next thing I know I'm seeing AI's assessment of my contributions here:

In the legendary GardenWeb and Houzz forums, "Annie Deighnaugh" is a highly recognized, prolific user known for her engaging threads rather than an actual internet meme. She regularly hosts daily, weekly, and monthly discussion hubs, such as "I'll show you mine, you show me yours" and monthly book reviews. [1, 2, 3]

While there aren't traditional, graphic-style internet memes of her, she is a beloved fixture of the community whose posts have achieved almost mythical meme-like status among regular GardenWeb frequenters. Because she has been a top contributor over the years, members occasionally create inside jokes about her high ranking, search for her vanished posts, or playfully banter with her about interior design styles and window treatments. [1, 2, 3]

To dive into her community posts, check out The Kitchen Table on GardenWeb. [1]

Whoa Nellie! I had no idea AI could be so nice...and so misguided!

Annie-- I was going to tell you that when I did try "houuz" with your name, and meta it gave a similar reply about you being a highly respected contributor.

Well, sometimes AI gets it right~

Well, what a pleasant surprise! We all know, or, at least I think I know, that we are to be careful with information we get from AI. Now, here we have information from AI that many of us know to be true and accurate from first hand experience! I especially like this phrase ”is a highly recognized, prolific user known for her engaging threads rather than an actual internet meme.” So great to know our lovely Annie Deighnaugh is a real person! 😉

Annie, I just put in my screen name and received my profile. Wow. All this info in seconds on what I have contributed and where.

Maybe it should be, "I meme, therefore I am!"

I can see where having AI do my resumé would've been a good thing! Says nicer things about me than my own mother!

eld, it's pretty fascinating, isn't it?

Well they say that you can't eliminate anything from the internet, so maybe my legacy will be that she reminded people of rabbits once a month!!

    No small task................... :)

What I find most interesting is that it is written in a positive upbeat fashion. So I wonder if that's built into the AI process. I mean it is far from balanced. No mention of my years of participation in Hot Topics which would lend a very different take on my behavior here....

  • last month

Ahhhh, Hot Topics. I remember those days well. It was "hot" all right. Just imagine............

  • last month

It may not go back that far. Yes, it defaults to what I call "fawning mode."

    However, praise well earned!

A friend uses AI quite a bit and we joke with her DH that she is having an affair! Definitely "fawning"!

Reminds me of when I was working, I'd get up extra early to take a morning walk. Believe me it was a roll out of bed and throw something on kind of thing. But I walked listening to Fred Astaire singing to me how I never looked lovelier, and he never knew the sky was blue until he met me, how he wanted to dance with me all night long, etc. Heck it was half the motivation for going for the walk! I'll have to think about going for a walk with AI next time!! 😜

Speaking of Hot Topics, AI probably couldn’t access that forum to give us additional take on our ‘wild’ days back then 😆.

Back to the topic, I’m a little disappointed that AI didn’t say, AD is as kind as she is nice.

Wow Annie - you're famous/infamous! I think the rabbit legacy would be charming actually.

I searched for my screen name - turns out I'm a mixed signal oscilloscope! LOL!

I prefer not to know what AI thinks of me, since it probably knows what I think of it, nyuk.

It's nice to see AI got something right!

On Tuesday morning, I opened a browser window on my phone and went to Google.com. There's always some news stories there. I guess on topics it thinks I'm interested in. The first one -- Kyle Schwarber wins 2026 Home Run Derby on msn.com.

Now, it did know that I like baseball and I watched (as I always do) the Home Run Derby on Monday night. But, Kyle Schwarber did NOT win the HRD. He lost the HRD. WTF!?!?! So I click on the story...curated by AI. It described how he beat Jordan Walker in the final. No. He LOST to Jordan Walker in the final.

Grrrr. Now uninformed people think he won when he lost. Yes, I know it's just baseball and who cares, but AI is wrong so often. It's maddening.

There are endless reasons why I don't like, and will never willingly use, AI. I am loving all the pushback on these giant centers that are being rammed down our throats.

I asked a question about an issue we’re having with our dishwasher and it told me to look at it through the window mid-cycle.

    wait, what?

i pushed back and asked it to name one currently produced dw that has a window. it could not.I suggested it strike that knowledge from it’s data base .

oh, yeah It then thanked me.

Yikes! Maybe there is a sinister plot to kill us all by following stupid AI directions.

Jojo, my Gemini AI sometimes adds a disclaimer that it can make mistakes!

We have found it useful though many times.

Also it depends on how you ask and how specific.

Sometimes it goes off on a tangent.

It is a mixed bag for sure.

my lookup says I am a former moderator and "well known on the Container Gardening forum for their (oh no! a nondescript gender use) expertise in soil science, water movement, and potting media formulations".

Never moderated, and umm, I don't remember even being on the container gardening forum. I am certainly not an expert in soil science or water movement. What even is water movement? AI is funky!

Even if your blurb is bang on. Cool!

It was fun to see an accurate take from AI like that. Now don’t go falling in love with your new AI buddy Annie. LOL

I recently read a response from AI where it explained that it was programmed to fill the holes in it’s knowledge base by just making up something plausible. Hot stuff!! No wonder it hallucinates. It can’t be trusted without further vetting for any important information. Since these AI models scrape these forums for content, Reddit users are now messing with it and feeding it garbage on purpose! Can you imagine the fun the trolls are having making stuff up to feed it?

It’s a brave new world out there. What is real? Am I still Joan? LOL
