Blessed Child, perhaps my Best Rose

Those of you who know me, know that I love the rose Blessed Child. It’s been in my garden about six years now, I’m guessing, and it’s still a nearly perfect rose for me. We’ve just come through our toughest weather of our year for roses; hot and dry for days on end with scorching winds. The rains have begun in earnest now about a week ago, so now I can expect the roses to get their second wind and look much better. Only Blessed Child really couldn’t look any better than she does already! She’s a picture of health and happiness: her foliage is spotless and her shape is an even rounded bush with foliage to the ground. I just deadheaded her and I had to think after I was done, that she’s my most beautiful rose bush without flowers. None of my other bushes look that amazing without any blooms. I think I could enjoy a whole garden full of this one rose.

Maybe, Rifis. Maybe. I’m curious how this rose fares in blackspot central; anyone in such a climate who can tell us how it does for you? I could post plenty of other photos of other roses that look quite the worse for wear from the recent brutal weather. This one doesn’t seem to even know there was anything brutal going on.

What a beautiful rose and incredible performer for you in your unique conditions! I'd also be really interested to hear how it performs in other climate conditions. I do find it extremely apropos that Blessed Child does so well for you, considering your many children :-D

Susan, what a sweet thought! And actually, this rose is grown in the corner of my garden dedicated to the son we lost in 2006. So that makes it even more meaningful to me. I chose it for this garden partly because of the name.

And I am second guessing myself on the first photo I posted… I am wondering if I made a mistake and got an Abe Darby photo in there.
But these three below are Blessed Child. Ones I think I’ve posted before.

Lovely flowers, and if ANY of my roses had foliage like that by this time of the year (especially this year -- it's pretty much been a foliage disaster out there to an extent unseen before...), they would be guaranteed a home for forever!
