I like the idea of simple moulding.

Looks like a home with children, so an edit is probably not in the cards.

Love the framed grouping, but a tall storage unit may be more practical for storage.

why not just a color on the walls and let the trims and shutters be your accent?

You can add the picture moldings, but where do you stop them? Additionally they lean traditional in their style. Is that the direction you want to go?

As an alternate suggestion why not consider applying batten strips to the wall for texture. They are a more casual, contemporary solution.

Nothing that adding some color and pattern couldn't fix.

Adding busy molding isn't really going to change the look, but I do like crown molding in most rooms and proper trim all the way around windows. A simple trim style is fine, it just needs to be there. No fussy built-up molding, specially if the overall house style does not support it.

I like Beverly's idea of the board and batten instead of picture frame molding. It better suits the more modern look of your home. Picture frame molding, while pretty in the right application, is better in a more formal home or Paris apartment.

Agree…it can help ”raise” the ceiling by pulling the eye up. We were amazed what it did in our house. Love the shutters. We have them throughout the house.

i think wall moulding will be too much for the room. Id give the room some ‘oomph’ by painting walls to give room more depth. youve got small kids obviously so wait til theyre older and their play toys are less visible before you really try to change up things. Add some cushions for pops of color in meantime Its really only going to be a short time before the trikes n playtables are outgrown by the kids

I’d worry that wallpapering that wall might feel patchy, given the windows and tv (which means its impact will also be lost). If adding molding, looks like there isn’t an uninterrupted wall and could feel disjointed.

If looking to add character, accessories, art and lighting can make a really big difference.

Another idea would be an upgraded ottoman with color and texture is another option - we have 2 from annie selke they wear so well

Adding more squares isn't going to add much to your room - just more of the same that isn't giving you the result you want.

Try using art with organic, rounded shapes, add color, put something on the coffee table that brings nature into your home
