Too bold for my tastes - but works well for some ! It's great that we are all different ! :-)

A great mix of color, it works because the black and white are the foundation.

Too bold for me. I don't paint and decorate all that often so I choose colors that will stand the test of time. I choose a neutral wall color with neutral drapes with one painted wall of color that can be easily changed if desired. I have color in my rugs and accessories. I have a 1950's ranch in the country so I chose colors that are appropriate for a Midcentury modern home and those that can stand up to large dogs with hair, grand children and sand and leaves; forest greens, gold, reds, beige, brown and lots of wood tones. Our home isn't magazine worthy but its suits us and suits the land we live on and the outdoor lifestyle we live.

Love the energy this creates! Not something I would want in my space though ...
I absolutely love it. I'm looking around my house for a room to try it in.

I love the mix of colors. We painted the kids' room in apple green, rose pink and have some orange pieces of furniture. They work great even though the mix might sound scary:)

It's fun, young, fresh, energetic. Plan to tire of easily, as the more saturated color used, that just tends to be the case!!. I'd recommend keeping the boldest chunks to those least expensive to re-upholster or change. It fairly BEGS for liberal doses of a fresh white, just as the photo deftly shows, and one dark more "grounding" neutral be that black, charcoal, deep chocolate, or a darkest navy. Perhaps best suited to young clients, with mobility almost guaranteed,, and less expensive appointments. I find clients tastes become subtler, softer, more "serenity questing" as the decorating $$$$, quality, and general pace of demanding lives pick up and like their color pops in art, and smaller doses.

Every color is the same intensity and so the room is overwhelming to me. I don;t know where to
    focus my attention.

I love it - I love colour - more particularly, hints of colour - these are more hits of colour - but well played. I had bridesmaids dresses like that 30 years ago (see photo with black and white striped walls).

The colors in my home evoke thoughts of the beach: sand, blue, coral, off white. I decided that the blue and coral needed to be rich, not muted.
I love color but it looks too "done", too trendy, and too over-thought. Personally it's too jarring for me. I find pops of color make more of a statement.
It's all good! Love color - Love neutrals!
Agree with Pam- different hues would make a difference.
The room comes first. It is such a bold statement that it subjugates the people inhabiting it. I don't see the point in doing so beyond the fact that it makes a great photo for a design magazine.

People are more important than the rooms they live in. Good design knows that.

My daughter picked these colors for her room & bath. We love the bright colors & most importantly she loves them.

Color blocking doesn't have to knock your socks off to be effective.

I like Jan's idea of using materials you could inexpensively change the colors of later.

I also like how some of these room pics use a variety of styles of objects in different colors: mismatched chairs, for instance. That allows for using one "great find" at an estate sale or auction without worry over matching it to create a collection.

Having worked with elementary age kids for years, I could definitely see younger ones quickly taking ownership of a certain colors. If you wanted, you could offer each child or family member a choice of colors, then paint the chairs. (I suggest first selecting a larger group of paint chip colors that you feel "go" together before asking for choices--that way, you can feel good about any choice they make.)

Such a good idea for an article/discussion, Jeannie. :)

This room reflects an owner who would be avant-garde, fun loving , and fearless.
Anyone can do a monochromatic beige room .
    Beautiful room!

I really don't like the mixing of so many colors! I like my home to be cozy and relaxing and those multiple colors are anything buy relaxing!
canvas boards and spray paint...a quick do-it-yourself project to add some color to a dark hallway!
Love it. I have gray walls and carpet in great room and use pops up magenta, turquoise, lime and orange in accessories. Kitchen is painted a greenish turquoise, and I use pops of berry, orange and lime. A friend who was here a few weeks ago said just coming here makes her so happy, that the color pops are so fun. I even have a cute framed plaque that incorporates my color pops and says, "My Happy Kitchen." Indeed. My happy, modern-furnished home is such a welcome change from 20 years of colonial decor in deep jeweltones.

"Anyone" can NOT do a monochromatic beige" room! That is one of the most challenging rooms on the planet. The subtle shifts in tone, texture, hard, soft, rough, smooth, more texture!! all must be considered for that room to come to life. Color, especially bold color, is not only "cue and roadmap", it is not nearly as dependent on the subtleties, that make monochromatic, and peaceful/serene..........not boring at all! All great rooms are a mix, but .....! Perhaps that's why a kids room is such fun. Color attack!!! with fewer "consequences : )
Not sure i love all the colors in the example ...but .....do love the idea on the feature wall. Definitely adds personality and makes the home unique instead of following the boring ....same as everyone else beige crowd. You can for sure put your own spin on the same idea with colors that your favourite. !!

I like to look at a room like this but then leave. I think I would tire of it in the long run. I have a very small colour block in my office cabinet to tart up a boring storage cabinet.

I don't mind it, but prefer the muted or grayed tones. The super brights are fun & I enjoy seeing them in a magazine, but too cold & stark for me to live with daily. A kids room anytime.
Wow! Bold is understatement here....I love bold colours and find they liven up and cheer me up when I am having a down day, but the decor above is a bit too busy for me personally. I find white softens the bolder colours and makes them "liveable" in my life and home, but yet drawers the eye to see contrast as well as warmth and harmony. I have never been one for dark wood as seen in this decor - it counts as a colour ov the whole picture in my opinion and so has to be taken into account and counted as one colour already. Bold lime green looks stunning with crisp whites and dark/bright blue, but the pink here does not really go with the dark brown wooden furniture......sorry if this does not sit well with people who love this. I guess it always comes down to the person who has to live with it.
Had another look....It's the dark pink that is out of place here for me. I don't think it goes with the dark brown wood. The rest is harmonious though - the lime green/white and blues can live with the dark brown wood, but I don't think the dark pink can. It is too over the top and does not bring a calming atmosphere which is what you are wanting to create if you are entertaining guests. Yellow may be a better option to replace the dark pink and be more complementary I believe.

THE EXAMPLE AT THE TOP FEELS A BIT LIKE SHOUTING
  • 12 years ago
Love it! I think the balance of color is just about perfect.
I find bold color fun and invigorating, but it's not for every space ( I can't handle that much mental stimulation all the time!) I can be guilty of using too much color if I'm not careful. I limit myself to bold color in smaller doses as a pop within a neutral background in the primary living spaces, but I did let myself color with abandon within my Mud room/laundry. Where better for a bit of fun and energy? This is a real working mud room, so it's not decorator perfect, but wanted to share anyway!
I love color & lots of it but this didnt immediately rock me. I think because it feels like equal amounts of each color, so like Pam said, you don't know where to look. Perhaps varying degrees would be more interesting .

Orange is also a lovely colour companion to lime green. The walI hangings would look good in orange. I would eliminate the dark pink altogether and perhaps change the pink buffet to the same dark wood as the table.

I love colour (and I'm not young). I painted the walls in my south facing room BM Dance de Soleil deep yellow with deep white baseboards and window trim, then I ran out of money before I could buy furniture. Took a deep green-blue love seat from one room, red chair from another, antique cream table against a wall with blue and turquoise accessories. Did buy a round peacock patterned ottoman from Pier One on sale to tie the colours together. It may sound like a mishmash, but it all comes together and is the happiest room in my house! Think Mexoco and South America.

I do love the mix of colors but find the room very flat and one dimensional. Where is the texture? You can use color and lots of it but would personally prefer some contrasting fabrics and varying shades and hues. It looks like a crayon box!
I do agree re the texture. It would be nice to vary that and to add a bit more print into the mix as well.

I love color block schemes. The way I keep these kind of schemes from becoming overwhelming is stay on one side of the color wheel. For example: Lime green, aqua, and emerald green as the predominant colors. I will use a bright pink in very small doses for flowers and one or two accessories. This strategy gives you the joy of bold color without being crazy making! I'm finishing a scheme with the above color scheme. I'll post when it's complete.

Wow, they really carried that though the space! The first photo suggests it's just the dining area. I'm not sure I still like it. I might have preferred to let the living room seating be neutral and let the pillows carry the color through.

I just looked at the room in full photo... and will add it could have benefitted from what Mitchell Channon said above. He was talking about an analogous color scheme. Had there been a limit of the pink to the picture on the wall, and a pillow or two, and ALL the upholstery been limited to blues and greens,.....( and I'd have had to limit the black accents as well ) you'd have an equally effective space and one far less jumpy. I confess.......I'd have the sofa white. Just a bit tooooooo much color for me to live with, beyond a week.

Love the color!!!! Color is life...and you must be enjoying life abundantly!!!

Get some back plates and then some very artistic plates in center of it to tie all the colors together...And don't forget the candle sticks...Do a bit calm her in White too...Its beautiful. Most people are afraid of color...Plus they usually choose colors for their homes going towards what colors they wear. Not always true...but 9 out of 10 times they do! Gorgious...Great eye!!

P.S. Saw only one thing off the blue lamp on the right side..colors off. But such a little thing...
