Actually propane gives off more heat than natural gas. That kind of set works just fine. The only caveat is having to refill when empty. The most important part of the equation is making sure the bottom of the fire pit has plenty of venting. Propane gases are heavier and tend to drop down to lower areas an can accumulate. Also as long as it can ventilate you should be fine.
