This is like taking shoes off when entering a house. Some people will, others won’t. There is no good solution imo.

I always give people coasters. Just say, something like "oh, I see you need a coaster" and hand them one. Most people are fine when you do something like that in a friendly, non-critical way. And the people who aren't fine with it are probably jerks you don't want to be friends with anyway.

Yes, I guess that I will have to be vigilant. When I have a large number of guests I just do not always see what they are doing, and the coasters are right there. I might have to put the grandkids on duty to scope out any drinks without coasters. It just surprises me that adults don’t know better.

True. It's one of those uphill battles in life.

We will essentially be hosting the same people this Christmas, so I will do as suggested or ask my daughters to hand them a coaster.
