The previous homeowners installed a really nice brick and stone path through our front garden but it is taking us too much time to keep it weed free. Judging from the photos of when we moved in 7 years ago, it looks like there was mortar between all the bricks and stones. However, over time, that mortar has all disappeared, probably due to over-agressive power washing and weed pulling. Preen has not helped at all. We even tried brushing some expensive polymeric sand into all the cracks, but it was mostly a waste of money. Replacing the mortar seems like the smartest solution to prevent the weeds, but I'm not crazy about the idea of crawling the entire length and mortaring each individual crack. Would it be feasible to mix up the mortar in a bucket, pour it over a small 2'x2' section and then use a push broom to move it into the cracks? If that's a bad idea, what would be the next best option?
