Where to put TV and furniture?

last month

We just bought a house, but now I didn’t consider how to design the living room. The living room will he our main area where our family gathers. You can see the fireplace, windows and open walls in pictures and my drawing. The openings on the right are to the kitchen and dining room and the opening on the left bottom is to the foyer. We have two long couches and often host people to watch tv. The room is definitely longer than it is wide. Any and all help is appreciated!

Can you add measurements to your diagram? if it were me, I’d float the seating area using a rug to ground the furniture

that looks like the best spot for the TV.

I'd get a large area rug and center it on the TV and the fireplace and create a conversation/seating arrangement on it, floating sofas and chairs.

You can create another conversation area between the fireplace and the dining room with 4 matching low back swivel chairs on an area rug, complimentary in style and color, but not matching.

Position the largest piece(s) of furniture first. You have two reclining sofas which need space to recline. You have two focal points.

Float the sofas in the room at a right angle.; position as if a sectional. Run the first one perpendicular to the window right of fireplace, so it faces the t v. Position the other so it faces the fireplace. Ground the arrangement with a rug.

Pictures are deceiving, so I could be mistaken, but it doesn’t appear you have enough room to float seating with two sofas. You could try the arrangement as pictured or try placing the sofas flanking the fireplace with the tv across from the fireplace.

What is the climate ... views outside suggest FL or CA? Do you need the fireplace?

I lived in CA, and now FL, and you don't really need a fireplace as a heating source. I didn't add one when we built.

I would get rid of the fireplace, remove the arch details and make that wall flat/flush with the rest. Then place your TV and a console on that wall.

Since this is also a pass-through room, I’d be careful about putting the two long sofas directly opposite each other — I think that could make the room feel much narrower and interfere with the natural path between the foyer, kitchen and dining room.

I’d keep the TV on the solid wall and try the two sofas in an L-shaped arrangement: one facing the TV and the other perpendicular to it. I’d keep this whole arrangement closer to the fireplace end of the room, so the fireplace, window, TV and seating all feel like part of one living area rather than separate parts of the room. You’d still have a comfortable setup for conversation and TV watching, while keeping the main path through the room open.

I have a video where I transformed the same living room in four completely different ways. It might give you some ideas for the overall design once you decide on the furniture layout:
