Questions: Shower pony wall with glass wall and tile questions

My countertops are quartzite. i know where I can the matching quartzite for the top of the pony wall which goes below the glass wall, but no one will cut it since it is quartzite. It took over 2 years to get the shop to cut the countertops. A friend called the guy's wife, and told her I had been waiting for 2 years. She got him to hire an employee to do it and he charged the employee for using the saw.

1. What is the best way to finish the top of the pony wall before putting a vertical glass wall on top?

I don't want multiple smaller tiles on the pony wall. I would like to place shampoo bottles on the ledge. Quartzite would be perfect. Would a large piece of marble work? Or is it too soft?

2. The pony wall is 6.5" x 39.5" before it is tiled. If I find 1 large piece of tile that has a matching, smaller tile for the walls, they would need to cut the large tile to fit. How do the cut ends get finished?

3. What is the best size tile to buy for the shower? I want a light gray that matches the quartzite. I think it is called Maucabus or Fantasy Maucabus. I do not want a small tile, but I also don't want a really large tile. Size suggestions would be appreciated. The photos show a gray tile that is not the right color. The white tile looks too bright or harsh and the painted wall does not look good against it. The gray tile is 4"x12", but I think it needs to be 6" tall. The white tile is 8" x 19.75". I also need the same tile for the sink's backsplash. I don't know if a large single tile would look right as a backsplash.

4. Does the pony wall tile sit level? Will it hold water? It is at the back of the tub. Should the tile be slanted a bit so it will drain any water? My tile guy cannot help for 6-8 weeks, and I need to buy the tile. I don't understand the process enough. The glass wall will go over the backrest of the tub.

I am so undecided on what to buy. This is a lakehouse in a rural area, so nothing sparkly for the tiles. I prefer to have it "quiet", not sparkly.

Please help, if you can! Thanks,

It looks like White Macaubus to me based upon how the veins run parallel to each other across the slab.

Is the vanity red oak? Will it be staying as is or will it be painted or refinished (it appears to not be a new vanity, is that correct?) It looks like you have faux marble porcelain tiles for your floor (at least I think they are porcelain tiles - the photos don't show very much of the tiles) - will you please add more photos (in a comment) showing more of the room?

I wouldn't have used the floor tiles + quartzite countertop in the same bathroom because (i) they both are have a lot of veins = busy, and (ii) I don't like using real and faux stones near each other (however, that is just a personal preference). I would not use a piece of marble for the top of your pony wall - you don't need any more veining (or even Thassos marble with its crystal structure). I would use a solid white material - the exact color of white depends on what works with your countertop and the veining in your floor tiles.

The cap on the top of the pony wall should not be installed level - it should have a slight slant towards your tub for drainage.

It's very unfortunate that you didn't have a riser backsplash piece made out of the quartzite when the countertop was fabricated - it would have been better to have that for a back and side splash vs. using tile. It would have also been nice to have a matching quartzite cap for the pony wall vs, introducing another material.

I would probably have the shower tile and the pony wall cap be the same color.

Add more photos of the room. It would be nice if some of them could be with natural light so we can see the real colors of the countertop better. Is there a window in the bathroom? If not, you should try to change your light bulbs so that they aren't casting yellow light - don't use super bright white bulbs (they tend to have a blue tint).
