If you are looking for Tantau, older Austin or Jalbert roses…

Sweet Hilltop Rose Farm is now taking preorders for spring and they are offering many harder to find bareroot roses. I ended up ordering 4 new roses. I got Kordes’ Vulcano, Jalbert's Lady Emily and Sweet Williamina, and Berry Fragrant Showpiece.

Do I know where I will plant these roses? No.

Do I have space? Also no.

Thanks for the heads-up! I've been sort of on and off looking at this place's website since I first heard about them a couple of years ago. I understand that they're in Oklahoma, which has cold winters, and I've read good things about them. I'm not thrilled with their statement "The Presale of Spring 2027 roses will go live the first week of October. These roses will ship to me from Canada and the West Coast in March of 2027. They will ship to you shortly after arrival, warmest zones first.". Only because she's getting the bare roots from her suppliers in March, and then she needs to ship them out... not great for warmer zone folks. I'd love to know from where she's purchasing her bare roots, so I could buy them directly in a more timely manner for my zone. I assume the Canadian growers are either Hortico or that new place that Palatine recommended, whose name I can't remember :-D

    Markay,

How about the black spot resistance of your Berry Fragrant Showpiece, on order? Any word?

    Wal-Mart Online has:

Showpiece Berry (aka. Berry Fragrant Showpiece)

    Showpiece Champagne

    Showpiece Lipstick

    all 1. gal., 12-18", free shipping, $53.00/ea.

I don't know anything more about the lot of them.

    Moses.

@Moses, Pitt PA, cold W & hot-humid S, z6, I’m taking a chance in Berry Fragrant Showpiece. I read some good things about it, but I’m not sure where I read about it anymore!

Markay, yes Lakeside is the one. I just sent them an email asking when their earliest shipping date is for bare roots in warm zones :-D

Lakeview replied, and said that they'd send roses to me in their first shipments at the end of February. So pretty much exactly the same as Palatine (after they discontinued fall shipping). Given weather variations, sometimes I've gotten Palatine in mid-Feb, and sometimes first week of March. Lakeview was extremely quick in replying and very friendly :-D

@Moses, Pitt PA, cold W & hot-humid S, z6, I do tend to research roses obsessively, but have found that no amount of research is as informative as the experience of growing a rose in my own garden, so sometimes I just roll the dice.

@susan9santabarbara I am happy to hear that Lakeview is so responsive. I would love to get one of their limited batch Garden Delights, but we’ll see how the supply holds up to the demand.

Kentucky, I got a Garden Delight in Palatine's last shipment, and it has been pretty great. Unfortunately, it's still in a 5 gallon pot, so hasn't had the opportunity to really strut its stuff. But it's in the line-up to go to its permanent home soon, if we could ever stop having heat waves here in So. Calif :-D
