Autumn weather 2026

last modified: 7 days ago

What is your autumn weather like this 2026?

I love Autumn best here in NJ, Zone 7a/b, my average first frost is some time in early November. Seems like the LONGEST season with a lot of sunny days. Today, was still Summer at 87 F and humid, but cold front coming in, but will be frost free for a while. Weird hurricane seaon, NOTHING in the Atlantic, usually, some of our local moisture in the Fall is from tropical systems.

Dear either ate or rutted to death two new, young Southern Magnolias I planted, dam/, the Little Gem was just planted and was still blooming, also took out a Bracken's Brown. They have been very aggressive this year, all summer!

"They have been very aggressive this year, all summer!"

Yes, they have been. Sorry to hear about your magnolias, such a shame to lose beautiful trees to those white-tailed rats...

The weather has been spectacular here for the last few days -- pleasantly warm days, clear blue skies, soft breezes, crisp evenings. It doesn't get any better than this. :0)

29F here this morning -- earliest frost I've ever had in 40 yrs of records. But there were a few frosts close to this one.

More much-needed rain enters the US southwest/inter-mountain basin from the Pacific in the near future.

    That would be nice ^^

Cold for me too, Beng. All relative, we bottom out at 42 F tonight. Should be turning milder now. But the sun is now the strongest of the year, no clouds. My tropical Ficus trees, Dracaena and Philodendrons all inside now..., still have outside all Citrus, Cycads, Hardy palms, tropical Yucca, Porkchop, I do have several large, establishe Magnolias, but the young trees are most at risk, they don't eat Mags but LOVE TO RUT THEM! It is the soft Magnolia wood. I will overwinter a M.g Brackens Brown and DD Blanchard in the garage/greenhouse till the Spring to plant. I do have 5 large specimens (up to 3 stories), that somehow managed to deal with the DEER!!

Cold in some WV spots. You can see the ground-frost in the pic.

As 41 North said earlier, the tropical season isn't over yet, and it looks like a storm from the Gulf will move northeast and perhaps give some significant rains to parts of the east US.

We've had 3 mornings so far with white rooftops with temps as low as 35d, so no killing frost yet (my most 'tropical' plant, thunbergia is still blooming).

The first actual freezing temperature (32d) isn't until the 20th, then finally 27d on the 27th.

Maybe then my white oaks will turn.

This is about as mild as I can remember this late into Fall, generally mid October is lights out for this area (although it may have been close to this in the past).

Ironically, some of the most impactful East Coast storms are October storms from out of either the deep Caribbean or the Bay of Campeche (southernmost Gulf of MEXICO). Atlantic Cape Verde storms usually recurve out well east of most of North America, north of N.C. Would not be surprised by a tropical Christmas storm this crazy year!!!

Possible tracks of the remnants of the hurricane. Tracking just south of my area would bring significant rain w/easterly flow.

Winds from the hurricane remnants in the mid-Atlantic state area.
