Necklaces you wear every day?

Do you have necklaces that you wear every day, maybe even keep them on while you sleep? I have worn one necklace or another every day and night for many years. I stopped wearing my most recent one, a gold chain with a small diamond pendant and now I’d like to try something (s) new.

What length do you prefer? A chain or a pendant? Gold, silver, something else? More than one at a time and how thin or wide ?

Evidently 18” is the most popular length but I’ve almost always worn 16”.

I am still kicking myself for not keeping a paperclip necklace that was my mother’s.

I have so many rings and bracelets but very few necklaces or dangly earrings.

Anyway, I am most interested to know if you wear necklaces all the time and what they are.

Thanks.

I have not worn any jewelry of any kind in over 20 years. I have a huge jeweley box full, but never wear it.

I rotate based on clothes and occasions, but my most often worn piece is exactly the same as yours - simple gold chain with a diamond pendant.

I don't like wearing any jewelry while I sleep. I started wearing necklaces again recently after a years long hiatus. I have several multi-strand costume versions that I really like. They have lengths from 16" - 24" depending on how you adjust them. I have a few larger gold chains from the 1980's. Most of them are 20 inches which fall at a good place on me.

This is the one I wore most often last year. It fills in the open neck of a shirt and also looks good with a thin turtleneck sweater.

My default 24/7 necklace is an 18” platinum chain with a diamond pendant. The diamond was my grandmother’s. I sleep in it. If I’m wearing something else (outfit dependant) it’s most likely a gold paperclip necklace and a thin gold chain with either a gold coin or an antique monogrammed gold locket (also my grandmother’s).

I have a silver Jerusalem cross on an 18" chain that I wear most of the time, while sleeping, in the shower, etc. I'm not much of a jewelry/accessory person, aside from earrings, but occasionally I'll take the cross off if I want to wear a different necklace.

Fun, I like that combination. Since Ive been considering a new necklace, I find myself checking out what others are wearing and the combo of a thin chain necklace with a pendant necklace looks nice.

Pork, I also sold a gold coin necklace of my mother’s I think I was just in an ”emptying out” mode while settling her estate. The whole experience was traumatizing and I made a few dumb decisions. Oh well there’s still plenty of jewelry left,. I suppose i should look at what I have and have it made into things Id actually wear. I almost never go out without earrings, a ring and my watch, and usually a necklace.

My everyday necklaces have meaning for me so I really do wear them close to "every day" .. one more so than the other.

The mid length pendant is a white gold round pendant with a yellow gold bezel. The side I wear facing out has a lotus flower and on the reverse a rose compass and it is engraved with "It is better to travel than arrive". It represents transitions in my life.. big and small.

None of the pictures show it super well (or the longer one) and that is ok. It is for me but I think the length/design are attractive. I rarely remove this one -- only if it competes with another necklace I am wearing.

I also wear a much longer one that layers nicely with this. I do not sleep in the long necklace and don't wear it as much but I do wear it quite a lot .. even with sweatshirts and tees.

Mine is similar to this-- but with cognac diamonds. It is at least double the size of the lotus. It is also engraved on the back ... "don't compromise yourself, you're all you've got"

I am considering another everyday necklace but it is on pause for the moment ... I would wear this one shorter than the lotus but not ready to displace the importance of the lotus to me just yet. I am enchanted by this Marla Aaron Micro Babylock though!

I wear a nacklace most of the time. I have a 16 inch chain that’s mostly white gold with a bit of gold and an 18 inch white gold chain. I usually wear a diamond pendant but I also have some Brighton baubles that I wear if I want something more casual. I use the same chains for everything and choose depending on the neckline. I only put on a necklace when I go out of the house and never wear them to bed or when I play golf.

    I have a jewelry problem.

We are related. I think of you every time I see my three Rene Escobar bands (I rarely wear them! Maybe 2-3 times a year.)

I do not wear jewelry at home, much less to bed. Do you take off to shower? My most worn necklaces are 18" , but I do have 16" ones that I layer... or wear alone. Depends on what I'm wearing and where I am going.

I don't wear jewelry to bed, the only exception is if I forget to remove my wedding rings. I seldom wear necklaces and earrings at home . I do like the layered look - but I have yet to master it so I tend to end up with one chain and a pendant. I have lots of chains in gold, white gold or platinum that I can pair with the appropriate pendant - and I have lots of those too. in varying sizes.

Most of my chains are 16" or 18" and a few are 20, few have 2" extenders at the end. But my handiest chains are extenders that my jeweler made for me - they resemble short charm bracelets, 3" of open links so that I can adjust the length of the chain. I also have a regular 6" open link charm bracelet (without charms) that I can add to a short chain if I'm wearing a cowl or turtle neck.

I also have some that are thicker and I can wear them with or without a charm or pendant. Several are Steven Lagos (think John Hardy) that I bought when he used to have his annual factory sale. Some are gold, some sterling and a few are both. I really miss those sales.

Love seeing all your pretty necklaces. My collection is such a mish mosh. I went to an anniversary party last night and I absolutely could not find one that was the right length for my outfit and appropriate for the occasion.

I guess I need to buy myself a gift. Or maybe two.

I am a jewelry hoarder too. 😆 I have probably 20 "nice" necklaces, pendants, chains of various lengths, maybe 30 pairs of good earrings, and assorted bracelets, rings, and whatnot.

Back when gold was so high I went through it all to see about selling some. I realized I wear almost none of it. I have 3 necklaces that comprise 95% of what I wear, same goes for earrings. I can't tell you the last time I wore over 75% of what's in my collection.

I sold none of it. 🙄

I wear jewelry at home 🫢 Most often I wear a thin chain with two crosses and a ring: a small gold cross and another similarly sized one of either diamonds, emeralds or rubies, changed according to what I’m wearing) and my mother’s plain gold wedding band. I have other chains and necklaces that I wear together and separately, a couple that are enameled coins on a heavy gold chain, one a round hammered gold pendant and various stone pendants (amethyst, onyx, etc). The pendants don’t have dedicated chains, those change depending on the neckline and style I’m wearing. I have a thin pearl station necklace that I’ve been wearing a lot lately. I don’t sleep in any of these necklaces.

The one necklace I never remove is a 17” thin gold chain that is interrupted with the script ”grandma.” It has not come off since I received it years ago as a Mother’s day gift. It is just visible when I wear a button up shirt with two buttons undone. It’s rarely seen in the winter as it is not long enough or heavy enough to go over a turtleneck or sweater. Andrew asked me once why I always wear it and I told him it said the most important thing about me.

I have a lot of jewelry but I go through phases with it. I typically only wear a necklace if I have a V-neck or collared shirt on (modest), which is most of the time. I've been wearing this Italian 2-Lire Bee coin pendant almost daily for about a year. I don't shower with it, and I do take it off at night, mainly because it would get on my nerves. My jewerly comes off right when I come home. Except earrings.

Sometimes the outfit calls for this one.

And I do have a third one that's a slightly different style, but that one is on a chunkier silver chain. I'm not sure where it is right now...

These photos don’t do them justice.

Hi Funky! Thank you. Yours is pretty too! I normally prefer pieces that have some meaning to me (bees do), and I remember you’re the same way. And the babylock one is really neat.

I try and wear multiple necklaces at times (not any of the bees), but it just doesn’t feel like me now. I did more layering in my younger years, but now I typically wear one necklace or none. They also get tangled. I haven’t tried a necklace separator, but I hear they don’t really fix the issue.

My go to every day jewelry pieces are wedding and engagement rings, stud earrings, a watch and a gold or silver cross. Any other occasions it depends on the outfit. I don’t sleep with any jewelry, too annoying. And I don’t have too many pieces, it seems a waste. I inherited stuff from mom and MIL, so I have enough for my needs.

@sheeisback - I have two Italian Lira pendants - I love your hexagon set one!

@Sueb20 - we must be related - I have a stupid amount of jewelry - especially rings.

I am actually trying to decide on a daily wear necklace. I doubt that I'll sleep in it - when I come home from work/being out - the first thing I do is change my clothes + take my jewelry off! I used to wear my wedding set while at home - but I wore it to bed. Wearing jewelry to bed makes me feel claustrophobic.

I was supposed to have selected my new daily wear necklace for my last birthday (five months ago) - but I haven't decided what I want yet!

@Funkyart - I have been looking at the Marla Aaron Micro Babylock necklace also.

I'm also still trying to decide on what I want my engagement ring to look like . . .

I wore a 14K chain and crucifix with a saint medallion for years. Lately, I'm trying to give equal time to the many pieces I have in my jewelry box. Right now, I'm wearing a thin 14K chain and heart. I'll probably change that soon. All my chains have to be at least 18" long, I don't like anything too close to my neck.

My sister gave me so many sets of gold earrings and pendants that I just can't leave them to sit. It is kind of nice to mix things up.

Oh cool, @dani_m08! Since you are looking at it also, I will share a little more here..

first, I had AI modify my image to include a close representation of it -- mostly because I didnt want the micro babylock to displace my lotus pendant which still carries a lot of meaning and sentimentality. Know that it is AI so the proportions may be off .. .and I selected a more detailed chain that the standard. What do you think of them layered together?

The standard chain may work better layered with my lotus pendant -- I will likely go to the studio and try them on to decide.

My bigger concern was literally just confirmed for me 10 min ago. The Micro babylock on the Marla Arron site is rose gold. A 20K yellow gold micro babylock IS available but only from the studio ... and it is about double the price (actually closer to triple once I checked again). I am not strongly opposed to rose gold but I like yellow and green gold best.

I have a gold necklace with a seagull on it, wings spread. It was my Mom's. She wore it a lot toward the end of her life. I asked her why, but she never really answered. After she passed, I found a poem she'd written about a little girl trying to catch a seagull, and missing all the beautiful sand and shells and water and waves. About appreciating what you have rather than striving for the impossible.

I wear this one a lot. It is a black pearl on oxidized silver chain but there’s a bit of gold on either side of the pearl too, and one tiny black diamond. It is the one necklace I brought to camp and as you can see, I’m in high fashion here. Please enjoy my chins, too.

    cool chain. How is camp!??

    dedtired thanked mtnrdredux_gw

Yeah, I don't think "everyday necklaces" are for everyone and to your point, Mtn -- a statement necklace is the opposite. I do remove my everyday necklaces to wear a statement necklace-- or even a not-so-big statement necklace that falls in the same area.

Thanks for the comment saying the new necklace is pretty. I am still not sure it will work with the lotus but I am going to give it a try.

Regarding layering, I think some of it is to make it feel easy .. which sometimes means that it isnt perfect. You can purchase pre-layered chains and they will be more perfect but for every day I like for them to look easy. That won't be comfortable for all people and all styles... and that's ok!

Sue, love the RE necklace and the oxidized chain!

I have a "few" but I don't wear them everyday. They're either too dressy or to delicate. I'm at the gym almost every day...then go run errands from there. I have a 16" & 18" tiny gold chains with a 4ct citrine & a 4 ct blue topaz. The combo looks casual, yet expensive. I have these 3 I like to wear together...casual....T-shirt compatible. Solid 14k & little rubies.

I wear a necklace like this that DH bought me last year. I never take it off. I sleep, shower, workout in it. Mine is actually white gold even though I told him I wanted yellow gold. Another story! I often layer other necklaces with this but this is always there. Sometimes hard to see with other necklaces but I'm ok with that.

I have 2 other favorites. One is a natural gold pearl on a gold chain with a small diamond. We were in a jewelry store in a high end shopping area in Florida and I admired it. Didn't buy it. I wasn't crazy about the chain it was on but I admired the gold pearl as I'd never seen one before. A couple days later at our hotel I noticed DH at the front desk talking to them very quietly and thought that was odd. Apparently he had a necklace delivered to the resort and he was telling them it was a secret. I have to be careful around him because he loves to buy jewelry so I have to be selective in what I admire!

The other is a small cluster of diamonds in a flower. It was my DMIL's. The woman never wears jewelry. Only a very slim gold wedding band. No earing, no bracelets, no necklaces. Many years ago she was on a cruise with us and wore this necklace to dinner on formal night. I admired it and was surpised as I'd never seen it before. A couple years later she brought some jewelry to DH to sell for her and this necklace was in the pile. I said 'you're selling that?' She gave it to me instead. I love it.

    dedtired thanked sheeisback

@Funkyart - I like them layered together. I also like the micro babylock alone. I have been looking at a paperclip chain for the micro babylock. I like rose gold - however, for a "daily" necklace, I'd like for it to be yellow gold.

I've thought about purchasing a gold plated sterling silver one off of Etsy - just to try on and see how I like wearing it (then I will pass the Etsy one along to one of my daughters or nieces). I will need to compare sizes in order to find one that will correctly approximate what the MA one will look like.

I actually liked the photo you posted with the other chain more than I thought I would - but I still am leaning towards the paperclip one.

I have a good quality adjustable paperclip necklace that I wear pretty often, other than that most of my necklaces just languish on my jewelry tree. I could never layer, I would feel claustrophobic.

I have 2 necklaces that I routinely wear. The first one, is one that my nephew/godson gave me 21 years ago in remembrance of my son who at age 27 passed away within 3 months of being diagnosed with colon cancer.

This necklace is very is very important to me because within days after my son died a white dove appeared in my yard. The dove appeared when friends, neighbors and relatives were at my house. My next door neighbor took this picture on one of those days that the dove appeared.

The second necklace that I wear all the time is also one that is in memory of my son. This necklace has my son's actual signature engraved on the opposite side of the rectangular piece in the picture below

My daughter gave me this necklace in remembrance of her brother.

Badgergal, i’m so sorry for your loss. Those necklaces are wonderful. Your white dove association is sweet. When my sister lost her youngest daughter in a freak car accident it was a skunk that showed up. :)

eta: I stopped wearing most jewelry when I took up golf, but I always preferred pearl necklaces and odd pieces (like museum reproductions of gargoyle statues :) until I bought some necklaces from my cousin’s wife who runs a shop in Houston. A Navaho horse fetish necklace. Loved it. Then I found a Zuni fetish necklace I liked, and one from the Mohawks which are in northern NY. The rightmost necklace was just strung by me with a bunch of Mohawk carved stones that I bought. If I wear a necklace now, it’s likely to be pearls, a gargoyle, or one or more fetish necklaces. :)

He’s not very photogenic but he is one of my all-time favorites, from the Albany museum… I think I was 10 when I bought this!

Re length, I have two strands of good-quality fake pearls that are 30” and 48” long. The 48” is awesome for versatility!

My gargoyle chain is 24” so that he fits perfectly where he should on me. And my fetish necklaces are mostly around 28” or less. I’m not measuring all of them, but I think all of my real pearl necklaces are 20” or less. I wish they were longer.
