Bedroom ideas for a rental small master bedroom

My partner has moved in with me and I need to make our small master bedroom a bit more adult and male friendly and a little less single lady :)
I have 9ft ceilings, I can't paint the walls (being a rental) so it's very white and from our bed we look straight onto all white built in wardrobe- hardly inspiring but can hang pictures just not sure what! So what is there will come down and the carpets are dark grey.We both sail so I was thinking a slight nautical theme navy/white/taupe colours as the base but open minded. We need to get bedside tables (my poor bf needs one badly) and I like my old teak one new lamps and replace the dodgy shelves the tv is on. We have lovely big windows which open up to a balcony so it has potential. The bed has to stay on this wall as we have a ensuite which means we can't face it towards the windows - help!

I like the art over the bed. It was my inspiration for funking up the room. More masculine bedding, a painted thrift store night stand, funky lamps, and a companion art piece. I got a little carried away.

A nice piece of art over the bed that appeals to you both...new bedding/pillows can go a long way....declutter stuff on that upper shelf...here are some beachy/oceanic ideas that arent too fem or too masculine that would go with the colors you desire:

Can the tv with all the cords go? First step is the de-junk the room. Take all stuff off top of closet etc.

When I think of a sail boat, I see sleek wood, built in nightstands with a head board. Something like this:

Is there a different wall you can put the tv on? Maybe the foot of the bed? I'm thinking u could install curtains all the way across and have 3 sets (1 set where the tv is)...a larger pic over the bed...

Most wallpaper is very easy to remove now (check!), how about papering those with doors that you stare at in a beachy grass cloth paper?

Look at the ceiling here: you could create this on your blank closets with some wall paper. Maybe trim in small rope.

If you clear items from above closet you could decorate up there with oars or large hurricane lamps like these from pottery barn.
You could also add wicker chest to store purses. It would give you a focal point to look at

Can you hang tv on the wall right where it is? My daughter got a small swing arm for hers in the bedroom.

Then below tv get small table/chest in pale color with nautical items to decorate. For bedding how about a bold navy and white stripe with accent pillows and a pic over the bed

One more thing, can you ask landlord if you can paint just closet doors if you return them white before moving?

Oh wow thanks so much for the feedback and wall art ideas, very much appreciated! I live in Australia so we prefer to source things locally so I picked this for above the bed http://www.mattlauder.com.au/image_panoramic.php?prodId=1858&starLoc=NSW-Middle which my partner likes.
I asked my partner if we could float the bed and it was a big no (he's picky) but he wants the tv at the end of the bed so we'll try that.
