Japanese garden landscape need suggestions

October 15, 2013
We recently ripped out the old dead lawn, we'll be removing the wood bark chips and keeping the tall grass. We have planted our bamboo, weeping cherry blossom and 2 Japanese maple. We want to create a rock river coming out from under the fence, spilling out into the front then fill the surrounding area with pea gravel and use large rocks that represent islands etc...

The rock river will be that black rock imported from Mexico.

My question is, do we have the right colors of rock, and that the river being the focal point? The pea gravel will be a light grey while the rock river will be dark grey. In the spring we will have more green vegetation to fill it out and to transition the rock river to the pea gravel field.
Here are the materials we want to use.
