Covering up a damaged wall? Ideas?

I should have known if the previous owner put up paneling there had to be something lurking under there.... sure enough this is what I found. Lovely pink fern wall paper and a hole in the wall. Any clever ideas to cover this mess? I would love for the covering to be thin so I didn't have to shim out the door frames on this wall... This is in the living room (quite small 13X16ish) in a 1920's farm house. I should also add that this is the only wall like this, the others are all intact and will be painted...the idea is for this to be an accent wall.
