Ideas for lanscaping this corner home!

Got this house just recently and the outside is a mess! Don't worry about the railing... That'll be fixed soon, I hope. But the landscaping is the problem, I'm already planning to soften the corner of the house with mulch beds, but as for the rest of the yard, I have no idea. It is on a somewhat steep slope ( which is being held up by these tall trees surrounding the house). There hasn't been much erosion except for the obvious edges of the yard but how can I tie the yard together without breaking the bank? Would grass be an option??

-not sure if you can see but it is a corner lot and approx 1 acre.

Corner lots often put front boundary fence to stop people cutting across. Saw the gardens in your idea book, but you need to gather a lot more to show contractors what you want. Gardens are living things where direction facing, soil quality , availability of water, shade, your use list, drainage and existing plants/trees need to be taken into account. Start by gathering more pictures, and decide how much maintenance you want to do. Start a compost bin now if you don't have one. Get a professional to quote when you have more in your garden idea book.

Hi Marie, Can you add a picture of the view of the front door area. This area is where you want some landscaping to make an impact and tie into the rest of the gardens around the house. The slope may best be kept as grass, if this is already there, as being the most economical, although a pain to mow. Ground covers are an alternative.

Use landscape timbers to make retaining walls, and add decorative plants for your area.
