My Helen Kaminski raffia bag…purchased in the 80’s. I cannot part with it.

A tee shirt from Singapore, circa 1987. It is Kleenex-thin, but irreplaceable. Also my Mother's white kid-skin elbow length gloves circa mid '60's. I never wear them, but have them if needed.

lkdrew, I have my Mom’s beautiful leather gloves, too. Forgot I had them. She was so dainty I probably couldn’t get them over my knuckles. Then I remember that I have her pearls, also. They beat my bucket bag.

oh, the dreaded full length beaver fur coat that makes me cringe! It is my Mom's and she gave it to me ... asked that I bequeth it to my daughter when she passes. Mom doesn't know it, but neither of us would ever wear a dead animal! As mom is fragile right now, we don't want to upset her by telling her how we feel about fur. Sigh.

Either the quilt my grandmother made in the 60s or my husband's cedar chest that could possibly be much older. He's not around right now, or I'd ask how old it is.

My husband would either be his grandfathers pocket watch or his family bibles that are over 200 years old. They are gorgeous. Mine would be My wedding dress or a crew shirt from our 24 year olds crew team that is now eight years old. He is done crew now but I can't part with it. Alot of memories and family days at the races. Eight years a ton of medals that I was blessed enough to get to put on his neck in that shirt. Alot of rain, snow and cold days and hard work behind it. The shirt for both of us is a symbol of determination, and hard work.

Ahhh, (swoon) All or most, of the letters my husband and I wrote to one another back in the early/mid 60's, when he was away in grad school. We've been married 47 years and every now and again, I pull them out and we see how innocent, naïve (mostly me) were. The sentiment remains the same however. I'll never be able to part with them and our 2 children, their spouses and grandkids will probably read them when we're gone. I'm sure they'll think we were a bit immature by today's standards. They are truly special.

The oldest thing in my closet is an R.E.M. T shirt from their Monster tour. It is ratty and well beyond the point where most would classify it as garbage, but I still wear it to bed regularly.

A long beaded black dress that my mother wore in the late 50s or early 60s. I have a lovely photo of she and my aunt all gussied up, and she's wearing that dress. When she passed, I found the dress and took it home. I'd probably have to get some ribs removed to ever fit it in, but seeing it hanging in my closet makes me happy.

I totally forgot to mention in my earlier post, I have my toe shoes from 1949 and 3 of my dolls and a full array of their clothes from the 40's and early 50's. I also have the bonnet that my parents brought me home from the hospital in (Nov. of '43) and my father's handmade baptismal gown from 1914 that I wore and my children wore. Hmmm, maybe I should look through more items! There's a treasure trove of family heirlooms in there! :)

The green paisley hand smocked dress my mother made for me when I was a toddler. There's a picture of me wearing it with black patent maryjanes and white socks. I had my daughter's picture taken wearing the same dress when she was little. Not long after that, we visited my parent's house and my daughter noticed the photo of me in that dress. So, my mom asked her "who's in that picture?"

    "Grandma, that's me!"
    "No, that's your mommy"
    "It's me!"

Linda, that reminds me of my mom putting out the nativity when I was a toddler, and explaining that, "Mary had a little baby Jesus..."

I had to interrupt her and proclaim, "No! Mary had a little lamb!"

My baby pillow which I called my dirty pillow because I didn't like to have the pillowcase changed just when it was getting soft and comfy. I'm 74. I'm not quite sure when I first started using it but it's probably at least 70 years old. My son had a receiving blanket that he dragged around with him & cried whenever I washed it. He could identify it from a stack of newly laundered receiving blankets & he was never wrong. It finally disintegrated until it was just a string or two & he asked me to sew it together. I think he finally left it in his bed & I didn't realize it & washed the sheets. Sadly that was the end of "bankie".
