I whole heartily agree!

I love sitting on a front porch and talking to neighbors as they walk by. I agree with Scott that it's great to sit outside on the porch while it is raining. Porches whether they are an open front porch (like the one pictured) or a four season porch will add dollars to the overall project, but in the long run they are well worth the money.

i like porches because they seem like they say "this is where the entrance is".
the problem is when a house is like mine, which has 2 front doors, and 2 porches.

I love porches. We are going to add one to the front of our house. I'd like it to be able to be functional as an outdoor dining room/sitting area in the summer and fall, so I'd like to make it 10 feet deep. City bylaw usually only allows one to stick out 6 feet, but we are going to add a 4 foot vestibule to the front entrance to try to get around that. We've measured every front yard on our block, and adding a 10 foot porch will still keep our setback in the average, so hopefully we wont need to go to the appeal board.

Here are the front porch and rear porch of our new villa home. I would say the porches are very important to both my wife with the front porch and me in the rear porch.
