American Woodmark and Home Depot will not stand behind their product..

Five years ago I bought American Woodmark cabinets from Home Depot. 2-6 months after installation we called American woodmark to complain about the wood denting, peeling and chipping. We were told cherry is a soft wood and therefore we should accapt the raggged appearance of the wood as "normal". After 5 years we almost need to replace the cabinets. I wish I had the ones I took out back. There wasn't one edge that looked dented, chipped or peeling. I just wanted an updated look. So this April another American Woodmark and Home Depot rep came out to see the cabinets. They both agreed there was a problem. That the cabinets look beat up and something in the manufacturing process was off. Interestingly, those comments were not the ones we heard on the report. They made 2 claims. First, that cherry is a soft wood and therefore does not hold up to wear. (Their brochure correctly states cherry is a hard wood). Second, that the dark stain shows a lot of issues. Oops we made the mistake of ordering what they had for choices. Now they have added a third claim: the kitchen sees excessive use. Humm, first of all I was never asked how much I use my cabinets. Secondly I don't believe there are standards for use with the exception that they are to be used residentially only. Okay, today we got their offical response. It doesn't bother to say we picked the worng color and wood. It just states the problem is "specific to the site." Really? And how does this seem logical? I live with my husband and mother. We aren't hard on our cabinets, they are just poor quality and the customer service is non-existant. Oh wait! They offered us a touch up kit. And $500 to go away. How is a touch up kit going to smooth out my wood? How is stain going to adhere to unsanded stained wood? What can we do to fix our problems with $500? Thus far we've contacted both HD and AW directly, the BBB, the Minnesota Attorney General's office and I've started a blog called buyerbewareamericanwoodmarkcabinets.blogspot.com/. Any suggestions? Anyone also experiencing issues like this?
