Need help with living room storage/furniture

We moved the couch and TV a few times we are getting a new tv stand that the tv will sit on top of, its wooden has doors ect.

I want to add storage that looks more adult to hide toys, I can put baby swing in basement not a huge deal. We are thinking about chairs maybe? Just need ideas and help! This is a very old house we have terrible lighting in the room.

Post links to items if you can, lamps/furniture/storage/area rugs. Were open to a lot of styles.

(Sorry for the giant mess!!!)

You said you moved furniture around some. First question: Is the TV where you want it?

@closets experts we had the tv where the stair case was on that wall, it made the room feel much smaller as the couch was then along with big window with the other end coming out by the small window. I can move it back, I dont know the best placement.

I was going to suggest to move it just like you said you had it. I think the TV is too far from the sofa. It might be the photo, but that is what it looks like. If there is enough space, you could move the sectional back along the large window and the TV next to the stair case. The other side of the room can either have a built-in where the TV is now and store toys and books and also display other items and you could have an armchair as well...

sorry, I think I see a door next to the TV,,so a built-in would not work there, but you could have some floating shelves. Along the wall, you could have 2-3 ottomans that have storage as well. They are good for toys.

Yes, sorry too, but tv seems very far from your seating area.

I think on the wall with the thermostat/stairway. Then swing sofa around with part in front of the window. Pull it a few inches away from both windows to allow drapery panels to hang well.

Know you said you felt this was too tight, but cozy is good for conversation and viewing. Think what threw it off was that the rest of room wasn't done.

Then add a large, soft rug to that seating area. Check out Target and other places for storage cubes that can be placed together for your coffee table.

Then the area where you have tv now can hold another rug for kids to play on and some chests for toys (just be sure they are kid safe!)

Here are some pictures: Think of one window or the fireplace as the tv, and imagine storage ottomans (find large ones, rattan ones)

Maybe a unit like this could fit into the room to hold books and toys. Maybe even double as an end table for the sofa or a chair.

Hmm... that area where tv is currently could hold a table for the kids to draw/play at. TV wall could become a chalkboard for the budding artist!
