Loving our new kitchen - now it's time to buy window coverings
Comments (107)For your kitchen windows, vertical vinyl blinds would work great and there are numerous color options. They don't absorb and hold kitchen smells and are easily wiped clean if needed -- especially the inevitable film that wants to accumulate on everything if you deep fry often. One wide set of blinds would pull completely out of the way -- half to each side -- to enable the entire window to be visible and/or they let you or choose the amount of light you let in. Add some sun catchers, too....See MoreShade help -how to make windows look great
Comments (83)With a red rug and the size of the room, you might find the red lamps too much. But, you can go for red pillows and then see if you still want more red. A few pier one pillows you might like. They have good pillows for the price. These I thought you could by and try and take back easily if you don't like. If you don't mind online, go to Etsy.com for unique pillows. http://www.pier1.com/Velvet-Nailhead-Trim-Lumbar-Pillow---Cabernet/2714110,default,pd.html?cgid=pillows-cushions http://www.pier1.com/Kaeden-Pillow/2509170,default,pd.html?cgid=pillows-cushions http://www.pier1.com/Suzani-Embroidered-Pillow/2659434,default,pd.html?cgid=pillows-cushions http://www.pier1.com/Sunset-Geometric-Embroidered-Pillow/2695228,default,pd.html?cgid=pillows-cushions...See MoreWhat do you use to wash your windows and how often do you do it?
Comments (148)I was in the industrial cleaning biz for 15 years and hired a service to clean some of the most important windows at the GM Tech Center. He used Dawn and a squeegee. The rags were only used to dry his squeegee. Sadly, my own windows are a mess from years of bug spray which they claim will rinse off with a power washer. Nope. It doesn't. We quit the service 5 years ago and the windows are all still hazy. It's something to do with the pyrethrum and I've asked around - yep, it's bad for windows but you can't help to get the overspray when they spray your entire house. When I clean my windows I use Dawn, cleaning vinegar, and a nice squeegee and only a towel to dry my squeegee. You don't go up and down or from one side to the other. You go in a big hairpin turn type of swiping with the squeegee. It's hard to describe, but, it's how it's done. Yes, it's time. I haven't cleaned mine since spring, mostly because I haven't been here much. Our windows at our vacation home are bad as well, right now. I've been there as much as I've been here....See MoreGarden Window in kitchen, who has one?
Comments (105)Here is what we did with the kitchen window. It used to be 55"W x 45"H Since I decided I wanted two 9"Wx 42H wall cabinets for pull outs on either side of the window. the person we found to do ALL our kitchen work said we would save money and buy a 50"W x 45"H which is a standard size Andersen French Casement window. And, that will allow us to have the 2 9"W er's on the ends of our wall cabinets. This guy is really good and has helped us so much. He just finished the roof today. He made it look just like the roofs on the box bays in our dining room and our family room, just not as deep because we still need to be able to access to open the window. It's the one on the left. And, we were able to use the same roofing material that matches the rest of the house that we happened to have extra of. He capped it all in metal to match the siding color because the window is not as deep as the other 2, adding the corners would only leave maybe 5 inches for rows of siding that really wouldn't show up anyway....See Morebabbity
