The door is knotty alder. Knotty pine would be similar but could be somewhat more difficult to achieve a dark color without becoming blotchy.

We were going to have the manufacture do the stain on the doors. Do you think the odds of blotchy go significantly down since the manufacture will be doing the doors vs our builder? (thank you for answering so quickly)

Yes, I would just have them do a sample for your approval.
