Refrigerator Noise

Just bought a new refrigerator by DCS. Needed one WITHOUT water/ice in the door. It is extremely loud. Not just a rumbling running noise, but a high pitch migraine inducing noise. I don't know if the
dealer will take it back. What am I to do if they don't? What do I buy if they do? I'm so so frustrated.
Consumer's get lots of "help" with energy ratings - noise ratings are another story.
Does anyone have a refrigerator that is quiet? If not, how have we allowed manufacturers to get away with producing loud ones. Searching blogs on this subject - lots of people have the same issue. HELP!

It could be that it is just settling down after being moved ... But phone the company you bought it from and ask if there's a decibel rating for this product - check the decibel noise that it's actually making ( there's a free app that will help you measure ) and if what they tell you is lower than what you have measured then ask them to take it back .

When I was looking for a new fridge, I checked Consumer Reports. We ended up with a Bosch based on their ratings and the fact that we wanted a counter-depth fridge. The top 5 or 6 fridges were standard-depth Samsungs, but I can't remember what they said about noise levels. Our Bosch is very quiet; I don't even hear it. I'm sure there's something to be said for where it is installed too; ours is between full-height cabinets, so I'm sure that helps with noise.

Thanks for the info on the decibel app. I will follow up on that.

Could be defective. We had a GE microwave in a new home that was LOUD when running. After three times with the GE technician trying to fix it they installed another one. Same model and quiet as a church mouse.

if it has a warranty, call for service. they can come and try to see what is wrong.

@timberledge, if you don't have a subscription to Consumer Reports, I can look up what it says about your fridge if you give me the model number. If it's supposed to rated as quiet, then you'll know there is a problem.

If there is nothing wrong with it you might have to live with it. I have never had or heard of a loud fridge. So sorry...

Lesley, I do have the Consumer Reports ratings. Tech came today and said sound was "normal". It's getting complicated because regardless of what the CR rating is - it's difficult to prove the sound level is defective. So at the suggestion of an earlier comment I downloaded a decibel APP - couldn't really get a good reading so I'm going to buy an actual meter to try and get a reading. Did talk to a DCS Customer Service rep - very reasonable conversation.
I think the reading I get will be critical in getting any kind of satisfaction. I'll keep you posted.
