What color should I paint my fireplace mantel shelf?

I finished putting the stone around the fireplace and a glass tile border. I just built the mantel shelf and I am so confused on what color to paint it. The room doesn't get a lot of sun, which is why the walls are painted a light color. The L-shaped sofa sofa and chair are a off white.
I need help! I have looked through so many samples. I don't know if I should go with a darker color or an lighter. I love the feeling of light and airy....In one of the pics you can see I have been going crazy with paint samples. Please Help!!!!

Do you have any more photos of the room? A darker color may be a nice accent, but it would depend on the color scheme in the remainder of the room

I haven't decorated the room except for the off white couch and trunk coffee table.The walls are neutral. The room doesn't get very much light. With the fireplace being black..I tried to lighten with light stone and glass tile border to bounce some light. I don't know whether to go dark or light. There is a lot of detail in one of the moldings with grape leafs, I'm not sure how i'll address that.

I would go with one of the darker colors you have in your cute speckled tiles on the border. Your sills are dark and so is the fireplace doors. I think a darker mantle with light and bright accents on the mantle would be stellar. Good job on the fireplace. Very cute.

i recommend painting the mantel the darkest color (far right in your image). I would paint the entire fireplace wall the second to last caramel color. Your off white furniture will really pop in front of the deeper wall color. And no it will not make the room too dark. It will just look striking! And if you dare - paint all 4 walls the same shade.
