How do you tell what kind of wood floors you have? Mine are all scratched up but it doesn't look like any wood I've seen.

I can only recognize a few wood types. Do you know how old they are? Maybe if you post a picture someone will know.

I have cherrywood floors-have had them for 5 years, (6 kids, 4 dogs and lots of wear and tear). I use hot water and a very little bit of pink solution....and I wash them on my hands and knees. They come up beautiful every time.

The less water you put on them the better

What do you use to dust with in between washing? Vacuum of swiffer, dust mop?

I use Murphy oil & hot water for cleaning. Then I polish them with libman hardwood floor polish. For dusting I just use a dust mop.

I also have an Irobot that does a lot of dusting for me when I'm not home!

Dust mop. Don't use a swiffer, It has some kind of chemical on it that will eventually damage the surface.

I use a swiffer pole (not the pads) and purchase cheap washcloths at Sam's Club. I wet the cloth with just warm water and wring it out well. Put it on the swiffer pole and go over the floors. You can rinse it out frequently to make sure that you don't get any grit on the rag that scratches the floor. The less you use, the better for the floors.

Just had new hardwood put down. Hardwood floor guy said little bit of vinegar and water and just damp mop. In kitchen said might need to occasionally use a little bit of dawn dish soap and water. He said if you use anything else that it would build up on the floor. Main thing is to keep dirt/sand up off of it. I asked about dust mopping... Said same thing about the vinegar/water.... To just spritz a little on the dust mop. Hth.

I've been using Johnson's baby shampoo, just a little and a splash of rubbing alcohol in hot water. Works amazing.
