I am getting ready to start a kitchen remodel project and have been working with a contractor to get the design details down. Now that we have worked through the layout, cabinets design, finishes I want, etc. we are ready to sign a contract and he is asking for a little over 30% up front to order cabinets, $5000 after cabinets are installed and the remainder upon completion. Is this a typical practice? I would prefer to pay the upfront & then remainder at completion, but I also understand that smaller contractors may not have the funds to put up to purchase the materials. I live in Charlotte, NC if region makes any difference. Thanks for any advice!
