7 bedroom to 4/5 bedroom in 2000 sq feet house

Just bought a 2 story 7 bedroom house with total size 2000 sq feet for my family of 4. There are 2 BR + 1 bathroom on 1st floor and 5 BR + 2 bathroom on 2nd floor. 1 Living and dining area on 1st floor with Kitchen. Looking for modern design advise to remodel the house into either 4/5 BR so that 1 BR and bathroom on 1st floor and 3/4 BR with 2 bathroom on 2nd floor.

I would keep it simple. Convert the 1st floor two bedrooms and bath to a master bedroom. On the second floor i would convert the center bedroom to an open play/study/TV area for the kids. Minimal work, maximum impact.

I would say, simple is best... I have no idea how thay crammed all of that in only 2,000 SQ FT. The rooms must be tiny... think about Murphy beds to conserve floor space. I would have to add on another 2,000 sq ft to accomodate all that comfortably. Good luck.

Try putting the house measurements into google sketchup. Take photos in each room showing each wall, the floor and ceiling. Take photos of the outside, each wall. If you upload a good floor plan, some photos and indicate your budget range, you may get some useful design comments. Are you already familiar with local building codes, architects, and contractors?
