Wall to wall carpet burgundy

Hello all. I just moved into my townhouse four years ago and need some help. I have a burgundy carpet that spans the hall way, stairs and living room including all of upstairs. I need help on furniture, sofa, tables you name it. Currently my sofa and chair are blue. I can't change the rug, it would cost me a small fortune. Help me design a boring room. Pics to follow

Start with a multi color painting with a lot of the burgundy tones it it. Add an area rug on top of the carpet in front of the sofa to break up the large amounts of burgundy. Choose colors from the art and/or the area rug for some sofa pillows. Choose some new drapes to bring the colors together.

Thank you for the advice. I am looking to get rid of the blue couches, what color would you suggest and would you go with a sectional or two pieces? I entertain a lot on the holidays. I do have a 6 year old as you can see in the photos.

Sofas will depend on how much seating you will need. Two sofas are more versatile for arranging a room than a sectional. Maybe with the two sofas, you have space to add a comfy chair.

You can also use a rectangle ottoman or upholstered bench as a coffee table which also creates extra seating during the holidays.
