i think traditional sofas are more versatile , but please don't buy matching sofa/loveseat/chair combo.

I have open space too. My sofa is a sofa with lounge. I don't bock the opening, I angle my sofa.

A sectional always has more versatility for arrangement variations. When you get bored, you can make it a "new" sofa. Not so with a standard sofa.

I think sectionals are not versatile at all unless you get one that is really a bunch of armless chairs. I like 2 sofas, or sofa 2 chairs for versatility and have the chairs be accents. sometime you want to arrange furniture to give a separation to the space.

Sometimes a sectional just works better. I have one in my family room, and I love it. It just wouldn't have been possible to have the amount of seating in there with a separate sofa and chairs. Our room is kind of narrow and long.

A sectional has arms so unless they come of and are reversible which i have not seen the only versatility you will have is if the long side has an armless piece you can change your L to have the long piece on the other side. If i use sofas and chairs i can have sofas across from each other, in a L one in another room if too much in a new house and the chairs can move around too, seems more versatile to me.

Sounds like you simply don't like sectionals Patricia and that's OK. They do have a different look than 2 sofas and 2 chairs. A diverse sectional though, with a corner seat and removable or switchable arms is quite versatile and I guess if you wanted to move part of it into another room, you could.

I actually do like sectionals in some spaces but I honestly do not find them more versatile than separate pieces. I also always would choose to sit in a piece with an arm the reason i almost always recommend sofas with 2 seat cushions because that is how many it will seat 90% of the time, the same reason I do not like loveseats, they are comfortable for one. I am not anti anything but I am very practical.
