We had one member post from South Africa some years ago but it was clear from the challenges she faced that home pressure canning there was a rare phenomenon.

IIRC, she actually ordered an All-American stateside, which given the cost of shipping, represented a significant investment.

BUMP for this thread. It still doesn't look like there are any locally available pressure canners. Buying from Amazon comes to double or triple the original price but should still be worth it all things considered.

Have you searched under 'preserving' rather than 'canning'? I did a quick Google and found quite a few hits including a Facebook group. FB SA Preserving.

Basterfield makes pressure cookers, canners and autoclaves which all look the same, but operate at different pressures. A bit tricky to find on their website, but give them a call, they are super friendly.

Have anyone been able to find any pressure canning jars(Ball or Kerr or similar) in South Africa?

The only jars I can locate is Console, which is only suitable for Water Bath canning and not Pressure canning.

They are 100% suitable for canning. No idea where you heard otherwise.
