Houzz TV: Color-Happy Country Living in Fort Worth
Jeff Jones and Shauna Glenn have always been city people, but in the summer of 2014, they were ready for a change of scenery. “We didn’t get the house we wanted, but the lot across the street was empty and had a pond,” Jones says. “The day we came out to look at it, a dozen or so deer came out from the tree line to have a drink — we were sold.” The couple built what they consider their forever home from the ground up. Glenn, a writer-turned-interior designer, says, “What better way to get exactly what you’re looking for than to build?”

I'm gaga over that wallpaper in the bath off the foyer!
Thought she must have the six kids locked in a basement until I saw their ages. Place is perfect!
In the write up about the pool I think you meant "alternative salination" or "salinization" not "sanitation"
Love the eclectic & colorful details in this house.
What a great tour and story! Our Abagail 6-light looks fabulous over that dining table. Looks like our Alsace pendants over the kitchen island too!
The rugs build a foundation for the settings and add a hint of personality. The textiles on the images are gorgeous.
Inviting and peaceful! Practical and simple, yet elegant. Great job!
Nice to see homes where the owners push the limits! What a colorful, fun home :)
Nice use of color --- plenty bright without being overwhelming or having that designery look.
Sweet, fearless, fresh and pretty!
Totally my kind of place - love it !!
I love living with color!
What a beautiful house and great taste in color. Antique blue and white Delft ginger jars always look elegant and they never go out of fashion - we love them and our customers do too!
Love love love all that color. When may I move in?
So happy to hear building the home didn't displace the deer. It's wonderful when we humans can still have a wonderful place to live without necessarily destroying the wildlife that is so vital to our ecosystem. Beautiful home!
so nice home for living . Thanks for share us
I felt this was a home I would put together. I loved it. When I saw the picture of the deer near the pool, I swooned. (No, but almost!)
Beautiful! Love the eclectic homey feel. Lots of very nice touches. I found it interesting that with all the color, the kitchen and bathroom shown had very little color.
Nice one...
"Designing her own home" Did Shauna Glenn actually design this home? If yes, could she please post the floor plans and elevations from her blueprints. I would love to see the space allocation and flow.
I love this entire house.
You have a lovely home and the setting is stupendous! But, please don't feed the deer. The worst thing we can do to wild animals is make them think people are friendly and a source of food.
Some rooms were great while others were extremely overwhelming with too much clutter, too much dizzying, distracting patterns and colors, . Not my deal. Incidentally, this is the FIRST time I've commented on a home after almost 3 years of Houzz.
This is charming! Loving all the color and pattern.
Shauna is my friend from high school and her colorful, beautiful home reflects her big beautiful personality! She is a wonderful person and it makes me happy to see her living life so well! You GO Shauna Glenn! Go Boswell Pioneers!
What a fun, colorful home! I love it!
It makes me smile.
Brilliantly designed and decorated. The bold, fun colors make my day.
Congratulations, Shauna! Thank you for sharing your home with us. You have loads of talent. Design is clearly not new at all to you. All the best!
This place is over the top too much for me, but I admire that they did it how they wanted to do it. I admire people who can go this crazy with color - and embrace it. To each her own! Enjoy your home as you like it:)
What a beautiful home! I just love the art and colors throughout.
Love everything about your home! I love color too and my house is full of it. I chose to have color on the walls as well as the furnishings and accents! My home overlooks a beautiful Arkansas lake and invites total relaxation to all who visit. Love all my creatures too...deer,skunks,minks,roadrunners,you name it have it. I can't worry about the creatures eating flowers and digging in the yard. They were here firs!! ( I hold Texas close to my heart...born in San Antonio, lived in Arlington and Atlanta.)
My favorite house in weeks, red, blue, red, blue, color infused with lots of personality.
Please do not feed the deer corn. Check it out...really a bad idea.
vibrant and fun! you also look like vibrant and fun people! Thanks for sharing your home with us. :)
Beautiful!! Wouldn't change a thing. Thanks for sharing.
They could move out of this home, take all their lovely, interesting things with them, and the home would be perfectly ready to sell due to its' neutral bones. Very well done!
Love the use of colour and light! Well done guys!
Love the colorful use of wallpaper and modern fabrics on traditional chairs!
I don't usually comment but I ended up saving almost every photo here! I love your home and all the color. Your style is very similar to what I have been trying to do in my own home. And the part about being a place for good food, family & friends, and making memories is just what I want our home to feel like too:) Thanks for sharing!
I love what they did to most of the house; but what happened with the master bedroom. it looks like something out of your grandmothers house and nothing goes together. a pity.
Lots of colour, and anchoring the chairs in the pool is a great idea.
It's a good design when it can be done successfully in a totally different climate and country. I live in northern canada and could easily live with these colours here.
God bless you and your lovely family.......loved every little bit of your beautiful home
*** B E A U T I F U L *** Every single room totally "wow" me !!!!!
I'm a Fort Worth native, transplanted to the Midwest, and this beautiful home and yard makes me swoon for Texas! Well done, from the comfortable yet vibrant interior to the relaxing and beautiful outdoors. One of the prettiest homes yet I've seen on Houzz!
I've coined a new interior design term for myself and I think your style fits it also I call Texas boho. I hope to see more Texan homes go this way. the browns and rust colors are so tiered.
Love your attitude more than anything but I love the home also - so good job!!!! Love colour!
Intensely original. Love everything about the home (location, inside, outside) but what I love the most is that Shauna and Jeff love living there. We all should be so happy in our homes! Thanks for sharing!
Great for first impact ...then tiresome.. as the brain begs a rest and wants to remain in the master bath. But A for effort and individuality, I do agree that personal taste and decorating really tells about you! .I like that Shauna has shared that with us.
Your idea for the drapes is just fantastic really helped me solve a problem I've had for quiet some time, your house is truly a home very well done
I love your bold use of colour and wish more clients didn't play it so safe. Great job! ps would you mind telling me the source of your living room trellis area carpet? I need one exactly like it for a project. Thanks! pss Just to prove I love color...
I was pleasantly surprised when I stumbled upon your video. Very impressive - a wonderful story of design and mission, of thoughtfullness and togetherness - kudos to Glenn and Shauna! Also your home and the gorgeous setting makes the Texas countryside look quite inviting. Congratulations on your fabulous "forever home!"
I love this house and the way they designed it for them. So much more interesting and playful than most!
Love every bit!
Very friendly home!
Nor can dream of somethin!
Love the style throughout the home and so happy to see multiple pieces of art throughout the house! Love the red lamps, where did you get them? Drape idea perfect!
Bravo! I think this is the first time I have ever delighted in every aspect of a home - design and decor - and laughed out loud as well. Kudos to the video's director and editor too!
Great job! Love it! My own house is very colorful--yellow, various shades of teal, and crimson red. To us, beige is blah. And beige on contractor white or off-white or cream or whatever you want to call it--those are the scaredy pants of home decor.
I love when large homes don't take themselves too seriously. The house has a playful touch and looks like a fun place to live. Some people enjoy a neutral color palette--others enjoy a home that is bright and inviting!
I'm a Texas girl in an urban setting in New York. I get inspired by the colors I love in nature. Deep greens, blues, golds...backed by neutrals and mixed wood tones. Great job!
This house is fantastic, happy and fun, and so comfy inside and out. JUst love it. This is a lucky couple who has built their (and mine) dream house.
Great home!
You did an amazing job! It all works beautifully together. Thank you for sharing!
I loved seeing the house with all the pops of color everywhere. It manages to be colorful without being gaudy or overwhelming. But I loved hearing Shauna talk about it even more, because it's clearly a reflection of her and Glenn's personalities and lifestyle. Made me want to move in with them because it reflects their love of life.
Great job. Love your house and it gives me energy just to look at the pictures. Carpe diem!
I can't believe you are not a designer, Shauna. Your home is beautiful. I love the wallpaper (especially on the ceiling). We would be besties!
This house is awesome in every way and I wanna be friends with Shauna! They nailed it on every level. My favorite is the Carrera marble by the fireplace and in the kitchen. Oh and the master bath. And the outdoor space. I love it all. Nice job.
Way more prints and color than I could live with but that's what's interesting in viewing the inside of other homes - it's such fun to be invited in and see ideas and creativity.
Love, love, love this house with all the wonderful colors!
"The couple built what they consider their forever home from the ground up". As opposed to what? Building it from the sky down? It's probably just me, but that phrase, from the ground up has always annoyed me, but oh, what a beautiful home. They did an outstanding job!
Generally I don't like ceilings over 12 feet in residential construction...however, this couple has really made it work. The white walls, the cool ceiling fan and the fun colors with the bright natural light make their great room a comfortable, appropriately scaled space. Good work!
Love the color!! Side note - so not a good idea to feed the deer: http://www.outdoorlife.com/blogs/big-buck-zone/2013/02/are-you-feeding-your-deer-death
What a breath of fresh air to see a home designed like a home and not like a museum!!!
I love the use of colors, accents on the draperies and all the rest of the details! makes me what to come and visit! BRAVO!
Love this home decor! There is color in every room! This is what a home is suppose to look like. Color, Color, Color!
I'm in love with this fabulous-gutsy couple - they have created an insane combination of color, texture and space that just simply works. Kudos you guys!
I love your home. As your husband says, it is different from other decors and that is what makes it special. There seems to be tranquility in every space. Enjoy!
Amazing job ! with lots of good details. Ideal home for many.
Love everything about this house! Can you share the source for the colorful outdoor decorations? Thanks!
Beautiful! I love the mix of colors and patterns. I'm a Fort Worth girl so this article makes me a little homesick.
Wish I could be that creative. Lovely family oriented home.
Absolutely beautiful, colourful, joyful family home! Well done Shauna and Jeff!
I adore this house!! I don't think I've ever been so happy looking at a Houzz home!! Shauna and Jeff, I own a 1955 mid century modest ranch, so it's different from y'alls. The way you've put it all together will translate to my different vintage style yet love of color so well! I've been struggling with some ideas and your decorating has my brain buzzing! By the way, you two seem like people I would love to just hang out with, beautiful home or not! Great job!
I love the mix of high end and more affordable design. Just goes to show that good taste doesn't have to have a high price tag. This house and surrounding property are fabulous! It's so fun and cozy I'd like to move in with them!
I'm in love! This house is so similar to my style...they are my inspiration of how I want my house to look and feel when I buy!
What a fun home! The color is great, but not over the top, very well done. Loved her comment about the rain-shower shower head too! I never understand why people love those, I have managed to get shampoo in my eyes every single time I've used one. Maybe it just takes more time to master the proper technique, but I'll stick with my regular old shower head for now.
Such a great house and superb decorating!!! Adorable couple as well.
What I especially liked was the actual color palette of her choices for walls, paints, ceilings (the base builds, I call it) were in fact very plain or neutral as I like it. She 'built' the color through wall art, lamps, rugs, pillows, etc. These can be swapped out with little effort when/if one tired of the bold colors at a given time. Idesl!
The
WOW! I'd never want to leave home either!!! I love everything about it, even the deer!! lol
1st pics are of video tour
3rd pic shows different rug and art
Beautiful home and family!
Love the out door space.
I love your house and the wonderful mix of colours. You just have a knack of knowing what goes with what. If I lived near to you I would ask you to come do my house. Thanks soooo much for sharing.
