Want to make unloading the dishwasher easier and faster? In this episode of Houzz TV, watch as kitchen organizer Wiebke Liu, founder of Blisshaus in Oakland, California, strategically allocates storage around the dishwasher for easy unloading. Her tips for storing plates, utensils, glasses and more can make this everyday task less of a chore for every member of the family.

Start with the dishes. To identify the best storage spots, go over to the dishwasher and look to the left and the right. Note any cabinets or undercounter drawers that you can dedicate to plates and bowls you use every day.
“The goal here is not to have to step away from the spot of where you are unloading the dishwasher,” Liu says. “Minimize the steps; minimize the turns that you have to do.”
Although placing the plates and bowls below the counter may not be what you are used to, Liu says, it puts these everyday items within reach for the whole family. Now even the youngest members of the family can help set the table at mealtime.

Give utensils a nearby spot. These commonly used items fit great in a pullout drawer near the dishwasher and the clean dishes.
Prioritize the rest of your kitchenware. Plastic and glass storage containers are frequently used, so find them a home not far from the dishwasher.
Glasses can go up in the cabinet above the dishwasher. This allows you to have them in easy reach.
Store pots, pans and cooking utensils over by the stove where you will be using them.

This is almost the exact set up we created when we remodeled our kitchen 3 years ago & I appreciate it every day. Our lower drawer is for pots & pans, as the range is just to the left. Under counter dish drawers are the best!
