Houzz TV: Showing Her Creative Side in a Classic Los Angeles A-Frame
Los Angeles ceramics artist and interior designer Desanka Fasiska’s 1963 A-frame kit house seemed to have more working against it than for it. The slanted walls made furniture arrangement awkward and didn’t offer much insulation or a place to run electricity and pipes. But Fasiska pushed forward, embracing the strangeness and creating an open-plan home with enough spunk to live up to the stunning exposed architecture.

Amazing! Peace, tranquility and... true naturally inspired design. What more can one ask?
What a treat to see the details of that house! I love her artistry and her ability to put together such an integrated and functional space, both inside and out. Truly lovely in every way.
Great light, dramatic structure, beautiful materials, lovely art and styling. Has privacy and freedom. Feels modern yet earthy. It looks like a joy to be both inside or outside. This place is absolutely wonderful. Also, that closet door idea, I must absolutely steal.
This A Frame gets an A+ from me! I love how the owner personalized the space and made it really reflect her style.
If that´s what her soul looks like, I want to be friends with her!
Absolutely inspired... I just want to crawl in and live there!
Love it!
Got the exact same feeling, jhamrin :)
Beautiful ! Could you tell me where to purchase the fireplace.
Beautiful! love the style. great taste.
Another fine report and take on an A-frame, Mitchell.
In a previous article you reported on an A-frame, I posted how bad it was to reconfigure one and my not so giggles filled expansion adventure when I was doing renos back in California.
This one is thought-out better and in keeping with the spirit, confinement, or better said, the constraints of the design.
Great thinking Ms. Fasiska in keeping true to a very difficult design. Kudos for an excellent interpretation of her thoughts by architect Fonda-Boardi.
A definitive win for all - including the A-frame!
Well done !
The closet door is beautiful as is the rest of the place. My husband will never see this article. He's wanted an A-Frame since he first saw one. Me, raised in California, am familiar with their challenges.
Wow, fantastic space...love everything about it but most of all, the warmth and comfort...exactly what a "home" should be.
Love this house and how this young woman has personalized it to fit her lifestyle while still maintaining the best features of an A-frame. I remember renting an A-frame cabin as a child (2 families) for a vacation in the San Bernardino mountains above LA and what fun we though the house was. This is even better.
Nice home but I am a little concerned about the apparent lack of window coverings in the bathroom and bathtub area in what appears to be a highly populated area. Hopefully there are coverings which was not visible on the video.
Amazing house
Just gorgeous! Love it!! beautifully done. Would move in tomorrow :-)
Absolutely love this home !! All the light and the warm wood makes me feel so relaxed and comfortable. Could move in today and be happy forever !!!
Beautiful!
Love this piece as we have an A-frame style farmhouse. The challenge is slanted ceilings that go to the floor in our 3 bedrooms. I noticed the use of shelving on the slant, which is helpful; but, placing furniture in small rooms with a slanted ceiling is the main difficulty. Any ideas, or places to point me to for furniture design or placement?
Really enjoyed all aspects of this home, I wanted a longer look at the closet doors that are a piece of art themselves. Congrats on creating such a great space.

I love the gas fireplace, I am getting ready to purchase one, could you tell me where you purchased yours?
LOVE (A) frame homes. This artist truly appreciates great design and design aesthetic. Thank you for inspiring and sharing your home! Well done!
Very cool and thanks for posting. We are going to renovate our 1971 A-frame cabin this spring.
my boyfriend (1970's) lived in an A frame. I loved it.
How did you create the closet door? I really need something similar in my new home
Beautiful job at creating the extra space upstairs. Can you tell me where or how you got the upstairs closet door? It works so well with your home.
As an LA designer, it is rare to find such a refreshing take on simple, well designed living spaces. With all of the McMansions and overly ‘decorated’ residences, good taste just stands out above the rest. It feels like the kind of homes I remember when I first moved to LA from NYC. Except this little gem is less hippy cabin and is more refined, pure, and just enough creative expression without being cluttered. This is a delightful haven, what a great lifestyle this artist has carved out for herself!
Great house!
Love the Biba reference.
That is really inspiring and Beautiful!
Where is the sectional couch from?
great creative
The house is lovely as is the owner, however no one should be taking a daily BATH in drought stricken California!
The triangle is one of the 5 universal symbols. It is my personal symbol and maybe it is for Desanka, too. It represents dreams, goals and mountains.
Love the creative energy abounds and the utilization of the space is so well done.
The out doors is as creative and tranquil as the house.
Thanks for sharing!
Absolutely stunning! Great job!
Would love to get the floor plan for this house!!
This place is absolutely wonderful.
Where did you get the blanket shown on the back of your sofa sectional that was in the video? Love to find something similar.
I like your style and creativity. It is so nice to see the expression of who you are rather than following the trends and styles that are so popular today. Your home is ageless and I love it.
One of my favorite all-time houses. I've often wondered what type of addition would work to make an A frame more livable, the corn-crib addition works really well aesthetically. Its angle balances the angle of the main A wall. And the dormer for a nice roomy closet. Her use of natural materials feels earthy without being wood on wood on wood. The garden looks like a great party spot, creative and not fussy. As for the CA drought mentioned by Pamela, I'd think a nice shallow bath would probably use less water than a shower. But I'm surprised CA still allows residential swimming pools. This little one isn't too bad.
Love the closet door!
That's not an a frame. I live in one. 375 square feet of slant. Sometimes torture, sometimes comically small. once you add a dormer, its a modified a frame. saving grace for me is my front yard..... which is a lake
Beautiful!!
Fantastic. So inspiring to work in. And that light coming through is beautiful. Bravo Desanka!
Warm and beautiful home - thanks for sharing.
Beautiful home, how inspiring! Makes me want to sell up and find an a-frame pronto! Beautiful inside and out - well done!
This place is amazing!! The kind of place I would feel totally at home in, and a place I, too, would display my own art. Great job!! Enjoy your space!!
saquilino1 It is original to my home! But there are many reproductions available out there from companies like malm!
Gerald Lorentz Actually, that was my home that Mitchell wrote about that you didn't like ; ) But there were only a few photos of my bedroom. Glad you've had a change of heart since it really hurt my feelings before ha!
minnypinny it was actually something my mother gave me... bit sure where she bought it but I'm going to assume it was New Mexico??
Pamela Forman actually, I use WAY less water in the bath as I only fill it a little bit. Unlike with the shower the water is not constantly running!
Patrice Boyan I got it from a store in LA called Pampa
bdpage The closet door is actually a room divider that I made into an accordion door. It's carved teak from a designer called Roost Timo
Ellen see above! xo!
PJM It's original to the home but you can get reproductions... se above comment!
Architectural Novice I'm in the hills and it's totally private. I like waking up to and living natural light!
Hi Desanka - I appreciate your comment about the your shallow baths! good for you, I feel better now - haha. I would like some information about the great looking above ground pool - do you like it? use it? I think I want one after seeing yours
Hey Desanka - All corners of Home is sharp...As sharp as your eyes which beholds beauty of the home as & when viewed by anybody from any corner. I would say your home is Triangle of Bermuda whenever seen by anybody they get lost in this beautiful creation :)
Very inspiring space. Magical and serene quality to it. Could you share the source for the dining table and bench? Thank you.
Love it................no one can deny it's charming
Great creation for an A frame hub. I commend the artistry of
the home owner everything inside the home really fit together. The interior
seemed like a design for a wooden cabin.
What a beautiful spirit.
cheriegg both the table and bench are vintage from the rose bowl flea market. The table is danish modern and I'm not sure what genre of design the bench is.
Pamela Forman The previous owner put it in... I just cleaned it up a bit with a deck and covering it with wood. I love it! It's rather small so I don't feel terrible about having a pool in the drought... I use it ALL THE TIME in the hot hot summers in LA.
I really love all the artistic touches like the 70s closet doors and how her ceramics match the house style. Love her DIY above ground pool and the whole vibe of the place. So homey!

This is not your grandma's A-frame. It looks like an A-frame on steroids. I think it is fabulous. Kudos to the homeowner.
I live in SoCal and have for many years. This home appears to be located in the hills above the other homes in the area, so she may not need window coverings.
What a delight to see such a unique home! Loved the various textures, artwork and fabulous bathroom (those Moroccan-style (?) tiles are gorgeous).
As a former resident of Carmel, be assured you captured the Big Sur feeling!!! And your fireplace reminds me of being in my uncle's garage/art studio in the '60's as a kid..loved that fireplace and the smell of paint. Your home is sooooo amazing!!! What a world unto itself.
I really love what you've done with your space. We bought an 1960's prefab A frame one year ago. Currently struggling to modify it to a family of four (with two kids). Great ideas!
What company build this A-Frame home? I am interested! Thanks!
I’m also curious as to where I could purchase this A frame kit home as well!
From all I've seen so far, this is the most beautiful and original house. Thank you for showing us this beauty.
WOW!!!! AMAZING
