Peek Inside a Designer’s Cozy and Stylish Cabin Retreat
In this episode of Houzz TV Live, designer Noz Nozawa takes viewers inside her 1970s cabin near Lake Tahoe in California. Nozawa recently stripped the worn and dated kitchen to the studs and updated the space with new cabinets that feature a natural wood finish on the lowers and a deep, dark green on the uppers (Jasper by Sherwin-Williams). Granite countertops and a handmade white subway tile backsplash add more style.
The kitchen is part of a vaulted great room that includes a bar and home office area, a living space, a dining area and a corner home gym. In the living space, comfortable seating, including a sofa purchased on Houzz, creates a welcoming, cozy atmosphere in front of a rustic stone fireplace. And in a ground floor lounge area, Nozawa designed an inviting window reading nook that includes built-ins with cabinet storage, bookshelves for her husband’s sci-fi collection and a twin bed with a trundle-style twin bed below.
We have a condo at Lake Tahoe which is similar but smaller. I like the color choices you made but I would find this way too dark and cave like. I struggle with how often I need to turn lights on even on a sunny day. We are planning a late summer remodel of upstairs great room and it will be interesting to compare to what you did.
Loved this cabin. Gorgeous choices and it screams comfort and I liked that Noz gifted herself that special hardware in the downstairs bath. Thanks for sharing.
Fabulous! Unique!
love it
Everything is so beautiful. What a talent.
Great space!
I love it! The colour scheme and natural materials definitely make it feel cozier than 2016 square feet. But in a good way.
Can you provide mor einformation about the downstairs fireplace under the TV?
Lovely space but this would be a little too dark for me.
A bit too dark for me, lovely home however
GREAT SEGMENT! SO RELATABLE. Loved the vibe of host and homeowner/decorator. Really enjoyed the space and listening to how she kept that gorgeous ceiling...gutted the kitchen...loved the red tile so personal and unique... hearing she incorporated her heritage into the bathroom decor. I found it so real as she could not spend a fortune and that it was a work in progress...yet she splurged where she wanted to. Truly inspired by the quirky touches such as the deerhead out of cloth and horn light fixture in bathroom. The room down stairs was so cozy and warm. Who wouldnt want to hunker down in that lovely house. Enjoy and thank you for sharing! MORE PLS!!!
Love this! I would love to know more about your fireplace cabinet. Could you share the brand please?
I'm lucky enough to have spent time in this amazing cabin and can affirm it's just as beautiful and cozy in person. So happy that more people get the opportunity to enjoy and be inspired by it!
Noz is adorable, and so is her cabin... love it!
Love the sofa. I don't see it listed on the products page to shop the cabin on Houzz. Could your provide purchasing information for the sofa?
@Lj and @Adriana - the fireplace cabinet is the "Barnwood" colorway of this piece – it's a BEAST to assemble (such is the tradeoff of price::convenience) but it's awesome. (Link)
YES, you earned that special hardware in the bathroom! Love the entire place. Could you tell me where I might find the accent pillow on your couch in the great room - dog design stitched on it? Especially like your boop tiles in kitchen, bathroom. Thank you for sharing this. All of it is just perfect.
Three cheers for Noz!
love the Deep River paint. Can you tell me what type of wood you used on the lower cabinets in the kitchen and any other info like if you stain them etc
Great Job on the cabin
@jj Mekai This is the sofa: https://www.houzz.com/products/loft-coastal-beach-gray-slipcover-sofa-96-prvw-vr~107822832 Hope that helps!
This decorator is AMAZING! Gorgeous cabin.
Another wonderful tour, HOUZZ. Thank you so much for doing it and thank you to Noz for opening your home to HOUZZ readers.
living the good life ! She obviously loves her profession and enjoyed this project. Nice elements all the way around.
Super!! It looks like she had so much fun putting this together. Well thought-out and she hit Rustic on point! :D
@forestwaif thank you! The dog pillow is a custom portrait pillow of my dog that an artist friend made for me 😀
Nicely done! Think Window Films! ...
Love everything about this cabin. Would like to see what Noz did with the rest of the place.
@kelly higgins the wood is knotty Alder and to my knowledge it just got a clear matte-finish conversion varnish top coat. Loved the knots, but it was so funny, we had to sign a release with the cabinet company that the knots might appear in the panels or the frames at various places and that we should be OK with that!
Noz, Thank you for your response. Love your place
Do you have a link to the rug under the sofas?
Cozy, cavelike, relaxing, arrive and flop down, that’s the feeling I get.
What is the lighter green wall paint color?
