Tour a Designer’s Personality-Filled Home in Austin, Texas
In this episode of Houzz TV Live, Austin, Texas, designer Jessica Love gives a virtual tour of her renovated 1954 home. In the kitchen, she painted the cabinet boxes black and added vertical-grain slab walnut doors and drawers to create a sleek yet warm atmosphere. In the living spaces, multiple wool rugs, a mix of antiques and casual furniture pieces and a rotating collection of artwork by local artists deliver a welcoming, lived-in style. “I don’t want to be scared to walk around my home with a glass of wine,” Love says.
In the master bathroom, a graphic black-and-white ceiling design hand-painted by a local artist gives a pump of personality. And for the exterior, custom steel planters add curb appeal and privacy.
Painting the face frames black is ingenious. Might be a good solution for me. Any chance you can post a pic with some doors open.
Love how she creatively puts style and personality in without demolishing what was there before! Very cool.
I love that she has a Chinese Crested dog!
Really love the updated exterior and landscaping - extremely attractive.
I love how Ms Love enhanced what was already there through the use of warm wood finishes. Lots going on but because it is edited it doesn't feel overwhelming-just welcoming and comfortable. I am madly in love with the ottomans. Any chance that I could get the source information? Thank you!
Beautiful new entry door! I am updating a 1981 home that has a dramatic vaulted entry but boring 36" front door flanked by 2 panels. The style of yours would look great so would you share the original width and new ones as well as your source? Thanks so much! (the brown, yellow & red walls have been painted out and flooring will be changed)
Wonderful, refreshing ideas inside and out!
@jeanette tokarz I found the ottomans in the shop. They are too pricey for me, unfortunately, but maybe not for you. https://www.houzz.com/products/darrow-tan-leather-ottoman-with-geometric-metal-legs-prvw-vr~100996616
As the owner of a half renovated 1956 Florida Ranch, this home inspires me so much. The exterior detailing is genious. The kitchen is reimagined so well, springboarding off the original cabinets and countertops with just great imagination. I love how comfortable the home is with the layers of textiles and fascinating artwork. This is going to be shared with my co-designer husband and saved as inspiration for our home renovation ideas.
Love your style!
Jessica; You are sooooo talented! This was so fun to see. Amazing inside and out. Thanks for sharing.
Love the emphasis on sustainability and the care for the rescue dogs (so they feel safe yet included when guests come over, so lovely) -- very empathic and thoughtful re animals and the environment. Re-using and re-purposing whenever possible. So fun to see this home and take in the energy. Thank you.
Can you share purchasing information for the console under the TV? Love the look and that it's not deep.
Beautifully creative home! I know you mentioned using the same floors that were originally in the home. Did you restain them or leave them as is? Also, do you know who the manufacturer was on the floors-I kind of like them?
love it reminds me of my old home in Texas so nice looking too
Terrific! Jessica’s imagination with repurposing and details is enviable. If I may, LOVE the mesh on cabinets, sculptural wall lamp in living room, ottomans and the entire exterior. Well planned, designed and plain cool!
Jessica is one very talented and imaginative lady! Will never meet, but still feel the goodness shining through in her approach to her work.
Jackie from Memphis,
Jessica, I love love love the bathroom. I am trying to figure out a way how to recreate the ceiling in my bathroom. Any suggestions?
What room was off the kitchen towards the front of the house? And was that a giant bean bag seen through the doorway?
LOVE this home!!!!
Beautiful job, Jessica! You're so creative!
Hello! The oversized ottomans are Four Hands and the console under the TV is from Room and Board.
Pro Tip on Four Hands- mine were purchased at their discount store in Austin. I did not pay full price on either one of them and they are in excellent condition!
The flooring was done by the prior owner and they are an engineered wood floor by Kentwood.
I love everything about this home!
Fresh, functional and beautiful ;-)
Hi Jessica: I love this house so much, I've watched this tour many times. Would you share with me how you sized your door and drawer pulls in the kitchen.
