Tour a Designer’s Stylish and Dramatic Kitchen and Laundry Area
In this episode of Houzz TV Live, interior designer Joni Spear gives a virtual tour of the kitchen and laundry area inside her recently renovated 100-year-old home in Smithfield, Virginia. In the kitchen, Spear tore out large sections of walls to open up the floor plan and fit in an island. Black appliances, a black island base and black soapstone countertops mix with light-gray cabinets and brass accents to create drama. A three-dimensional arabesque-pattern backsplash offers another punch of style.
Elsewhere in the home, Spear took square footage from a guest bedroom to create a 3-by-6-foot laundry nook in a hallway. The space, which became Spear’s favorite spot in the house, features hexagon tile, linen cabinets, stacked appliances and a small sink.

I love this! That little laundry nook is sweet!
I noticed the painted runner on the steps immediately and LOVE it!!!
What brand is the faucet?
love the remodel and the painted stairs!
The painted runner is brilliant!!! I’m going to assess whether I have the courage to try it on my 103-year-old stairs!
Your renovation is lovely!
This renovation is lovely!!❣️❣️❣️
Unfortunately, I do not have the color of the cabinets but it's a blue/ black custom mix.
Beautiful house!
Why is the painted runner not finished on the upper left part of the stairs? Or does it just look unfinished?
WOW!! Loved the kitchen, especially the backsplash tiles! Beautiful renovation.
Where did you get the beautiful lights over the kitchen island? They are just what I am looking for and yet can’t find.
I would have liked to see the window over the sink replaced with an awning type so you could eliminate the center mullion. Marvin makes a large push out type that would be easy to operate in that situation.
What is the source for the over island lighting? Love it!
what is the name of the white quartz?
