East Hudson House

This custom single-family house was actually a renovation of an existing mid-century split-level home, purchased by an empty-nester couple interested in a house which expressed the horizon-reaching environment of their native Midwest. The house's material palette reflects the client's appreciation of the warmth of wood and stone elements. The interior main space features a sweeping, curved mahogany paneled "ribbon wall" to showcase the client's exuberant and eclectic art object collection, softly bathed by a north-facing linear skylight above. And the house employs highly energy efficient strategies, including deep overhang solar shading, high efficiency heating / conditioning systems, and a super-insulated envelope with high-performance glazing.
