James Avenue, Contemporary/ Transitional Project

This church project involved the entry area to the worship center and two pastoral offices. As is the case with so many churches, the project was accomplished with a minimal budget...getting the best possible bang for our buck!

In the foyer or entry area, it was important to reflect the church's personality, culture and values. Though connected to traditional conservative Christian values, the church operates in free and Spirit-led manner. The look needed to be contemporary yet warm and inviting. This was accomplished through the use of bright and warm colors and modern furniture, rugs and accessories.

It was important that the entry not only be a good representation of the church, but that it was also quite functional. Knowing that people would bring food and beverages into the conversation spaces, indoor/outdoor rugs were used. This meant they were not only more durable, but far easier to maintain. Even accessories were chosen that were not easily moved or broken (as the area is used in gathering the children for Kids Church each and every Sunday).

The office spaces also needed to represent the heart and personality of those that would be using them. One of the pastors has a particular heart for Africa (Kenya in particular). Despite the incredibly small dimensions of the space, we were able to capture the "air of Africa" in the furniture & accessories that were installed.

Finally, in the Senior Leader's space, an unusual palette of purple and orange was selected. The space needed to be edgy in look and functional in design. Being a place where leadership and staff often gather, it was important to maximize seating and visibility. The result was somewhat stark but extremely vibrant, perfectly mirroring its occupant.
