Los Feliz Residence
Collaborating with a developer, we conceived a contemporary hillside residence nestled into a prime Los Feliz lot adjacent to Griffith Park. The site’s dramatic elevation offers **panoramic vistas** spanning from Downtown Los Angeles to the Santa Monica coastline and Catalina Island, a visual narrative that became the driving force behind the home’s orientation and materiality.
The 5,600-square-foot program balances expansive communal living with private retreats. A two-story layout houses six bedrooms, a screening room, exercise facilities, and a three-car garage, while the heart of the home unfolds as a fluid, open-plan sequence of living, dining, kitchen, and family areas. Strategic minimalism defines the public zones: structural walls are pared back to emphasize spatial continuity, drawing focus to the seamless connection between interior volumes and the exterior landscape.
Material contrast defines the exterior expression. The ground level is clad in gray-stained horizontal shiplap siding, its textured, rhythmic grain evoking the raw tactility of concrete—a grounded counterpoint to the landscape. Above, the **upper volume**, rendered in crisp white stucco, appears to **float ethereally**, cantilevering beyond the base to accentuate the home’s modern silhouette. Floor-to-ceiling aluminum windows and doors punctuate both levels, framing the **cinematic city views** while maintaining a sleek, unbroken aesthetic.
