Marina District Residence
Britta Tuschhoff worked as an associate at Soularch Design on a remodel of a residential in the Marina District in San Francisco 2009. It is a 3-story building with environmentally friendly systems and materials. The bay is designed with Port Orford Cedar, which contrasts with dark gray stucco and concrete on the main building facades. Natural light abounds, designed to take advantage of the sun considering the angle of the light. Solar systems are incorporated on roof and wall. The photovoltaic panels on the facade are integrated as a finish exterior material. Built to strict seismic standards, the foundation is a Mat Slab with steel Z Frames incorporated.
The master suite on the main floor overlooks the garden via its terrace. Natural bamboo flooring throughout the building and cabinets in kitchen and bathrooms were used.
Upper rooms open directly to the main house mezzanine overlooking the great room, yet can also be accessed via a separate entrance. A bridge leads from the mezzanine to the front terrace, as well as down a staircase to the great room.
