Our client is a teenage girl with a love of everything bohemian. She was open to lots of bold ideas for the space; her only stipulations were that it be pretty and look completely different than it had before.

We opted for a warm black for the walls. The color changed the feel of the room immediately, making it both sophisticated and dramatic. We furthered that theme through the furnishings, selecting ones to cultivate a worldly, antiquey vibe.

The bedside table is a neat find: it’s formed of a stack of steamer trays usually used for food. The carving on the vintage dresser adds a lovely feminine touch, and the Japanese hand painted screen provides cosmopolitan flair. The sinuous lines of the rattan chaise make for a favorite lounging spot, and it offers a comfortable place for her to sit while she does her homework.

Our client wanted a lot of color in the room, so we used some lovely kantha textiles for her bedding, and paired them with a blue gray rug reminiscent of Moroccan tilework. The brass and gold hints throughout the space add a bit of glamor, too.

All of these elements add up to a youthful and sophisticated take on the boho vibe. Our client was thrilled, and we’re sure she’s going to love her new room for a long time to come.
