Remsen Apartment

This project began as a relatively straightforward renovation for a long-time client at SKOLNICK Architecture, but eventually developed into a unique, multi-phase journey to meet the changing needs of their family. The apartment, in a post-war residential building in Brooklyn Heights with magnificent views of the Harbor, was originally intended as a residence for a young, single professional, and the design, led by Lee H. Skolnick, married a sophisticated sensibility with a material rawness reflected in the use of reclaimed woods and acid-treated zinc panels.

However, time passes, and in its second lifetime, the residence was combined with its neighbor to create a softer, more refined environment for a just-married couple. In this iteration, the design flows through open, airy spaces, while also carving out focused areas of contemplation and reading, responding to the owner’s love of books.

I was the Project Manager on both Phases of this fascinating architectural journey.
